Politics: Max Headroom: John McCain lets Sarah Palin know where she stands

  • Is this a compliment?
On “Meet The Press” this week, John McCain said that he was proud of his former Veep candidate, Sarah Palin, and said that even though she’s “irrelevant,” people continue to attack her. Sounds backhanded.

  • Mitt Romney’s stance
You know this guy’s gonna make another run for office. The GOP’s best resource on government health care leans largely on fiscal concerns in this clip with our boy John King. Whether or not you agree, he sounds on the ball.

  • I don’t vote
Gen. David Petraeus has a pretty interesting wrinkle to carry around: He doesn’t vote, and hasn’t since he was promoted to Maj. General in 2002. Fox News’ Chris Wallace, amusingly, seems taken aback by this fact.

Politics: Max Baucus wasn’t cheating; he was just ethically unsound

maxbaucus1205

  • There has to be a public option joke we can make here. The Montana senator, who was in the news for months due to his role in the health care debate, recently admitted to nominating Melodee Hanes for the U.S. attorney post while he was having a romantic relationship with her. She backed out, however, after they decided they wanted to move in together. Unlike most situations like this, BTW, this wasn’t cheating. The relationship began when he was separated from his wife – who he has since divorced. source

Politics: Amusing: The White House’s war of sevens with Politico

  • seven Politico writes a story called “7 Stories Barack Obama Doesn’t Want Told.” It’s about as dry and harsh as it sounds.
  • seven The White House sends around an internal e-mail with their own, more hilarious, list of seven, which rips on Politico big-time. source

Politics: Bill O’Reilly plays Larry King to Mike Huckabee’s soft-pedal needs

  • Well, at least he found a sympathetic ear. Can we criticize Bill O’Reilly for shifting the blame from the former Arkansas governor just as much as the former Arkansas governor does it himself? He straight-up tells Huckabee, “It’s not your fault.”

Politics: Yo, Matty Yglesias: Dick Cheney could be president, but he scares us.

  • Cheney couldn’t possibly win a presidential election … unless somehow he could, in which case the country would be set for a world of pain.
  • ThinkProgress blogger Matthew Yglesias (whose name always makes us think of Enrique Iglesias) • Describing his surprise but total belief that Dick Cheney could run for president in 2012. If he does, of course, expect our country to turn into the equivalent of an Escape From New York/Mad Max cluster)#(&( the likes we haven’t seen since our most recent worst nightmare. source

Politics: Max Headroom: Chris Matthews has the biggest talking head of all

matthews1130

  • Yeah, that’s him Family Guy recently had a pretty spot-on parody of Chris Matthews recently, noting both his forehead and the way that he never lets people finish. Hilarious. (On a side note – NewsPolitics is no longer on YouTube, and are now hosted by Mediaite. That’s great, but: Dear Mediaite, fix your messy embed codes!)
  • She’s been there On “Fox News Sunday,” former Bush press secretary Dana Perino talked about her experiences with public events and how something like the gate-crashing incident could’ve happened. Ultimately, the main point she makes is that Obama wanted to lighten up White House security, but he really can’t do that.
  • A ticking time bombRecently, Glenn Beck made a reference to Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu being a hooker for supporting the health care bill after multiple concessions for her state. Fellow radio host Bill Press says that Fox News – beyond showing hypocrisy for letting Beck be sexist – is setting themselves up for a huge, public Glenn Beck blow-up.
