Politics: Max headroom: SNL parodies Fox News, Lindsey Graham goes DOA

  • Health care DOA? On “Face the Nation” today, Sen. Lindsey Graham trashed the health care bill like he was throwing it in a compactor and then burning it. Pulling no punches, he said it was DOA and had no chance of passing in the Senate. Harsh words.

  • His district’s needsJoseph Cao’s biggest sticking point was abortion; with that decided, he made a “decision of conscience” based on his low-income district’s needs. Cao’s district covers areas of New Orleans heavily damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

  • Fox News farceLast night, “Saturday Night Live” had one of the best Fox News parodies we’ve seen. Best quote comes from “Karl Rove”: “Let’s not forget that it was under HIS watch that we lost the King of Pop.” And “Glenn Beck” is pretty dead-on too.

Tech: The guys behind @FakeAPStylebook explain their inspiration

  • He had said, ‘I don’t know if I’m sad or relieved that this is not a fake account’ because there are so many joke accounts for celebrities. That’s when the inspiration struck.
  • @FakeAPStylebook cofounder Ken Lowery • On the spark he and cohort Mark Hale had in creating the hilarious Twitter account. Essentially, the duo had seen @APStylebook, the Associated Press’ official Twitter feed for all things random style, and saw an idea ripe for parody. The realization paid big dividends – Lowery and Hale have 20,000 more followers than their source of inspiration and already have a book deal lined up. Does the real AP like it? Well, some reporters do, but they haven’t heard from the AP proper yet.  • source

U.S.: Saddest story of the day: Deer escapes lions at National Zoo, still dies

  • This story isn’t nearly as scary as the woman who got bitten by a polar bear after jumping in the water, but in a lot of ways, it’s more dramatic and sad. This deer accidentally found itself in the lion enclosure at the National Zoo in D.C. and had a heck of a time getting away (as the video above attests). It succeeded eventually, but died anyway due to injuries it sustained in the escape. :( source

  • Today will be loaded with celebration for Germans celebrating the 20th anniversary of the end of the Berlin Wall – that product of communism that divided the country in two. Among things to keep an eye on in this Flickr feed (which promises to get more interesting later today): A row of handkerchiefs creating a symbolic wall. “Handkerchiefs are a symbol of the many tears, the farewells, the joy, the dance, the exchange between East and West,” explains organiser Bernd Klippel. source
