Offbeat: Dear Providence College kids: You’re not really that cool

  • Look, white guy rap is one thing, but Asher Roth at least had flow when he did this. Then again, we take it back. We shouldn’t hate, because we remember what it was like to chill in the dorms like this. These dudes look like they’re just having fun. Still, though, fun ≠ flow. (Oh yeah, we wanna give a big up to their janitor, Domingo.)

Culture: “SNL” nails the, uh, appeal of the “Shake Weight” commercial

  • Somehow, they made it dirtier. Last night’s “SNL” had a spot-on parody of the infamous “Shake Weight” commercial, an exercise device that looks like, uh, something else. The sketch show’s angle? The commercial is so good that they might as well sell it on DVD.

Politics: SNL reimagines Sarah Palin as Oprah, the network

  • If Sarah Palin had a cable network like this SNL performance suggests, it’d be great, because then we could completely avoid watching her.

Culture: “Dr. Horrible,” 8-bit style: A “Maniac Mansion” for modern nerds

  • Whoever the genius is that created this needs to be given like a million dollars by Joss Whedon or something so he can sell this game. This is a brilliant idea. And hilarious.

Culture: Weird Al could make second career out of grammar correction

  • We want him to do this everywhere. With that same annoyed look. We would post every single video of him doing it, because good grammar deserves rewards.

Culture: Bad idea for school play: Scarface. Al Pacino fudgin’ proud

  • Next semester: Showgirls. Perhaps this wasn’t the kind of material that was begging for 8-year-olds to perform it, but hey, if there’s anything the Internet knows, it’s tasteless. Mashable overreacted to the impact of this video, calling it the greatest viral video ever, only to get a number of criticisms in their comments (poor Brenna Ehrlich gets that a lot). We’re calling shenanigans on this one. It’s too bad of an idea to be real. source

Politics: “Conservative Libertarian: Two great tastes that taste great together”

  • “What if you drew arrows from here to theocracy?” Oh man, Jon Stewart was in fine form last night, pulling out that Glenn Beck impression of his and making it even better than it was before. Beck is still crazy but occasionally says sensical things these days. This clip is 13 minutes, but it’s the best 13 minutes you’ll spend all day. source

Politics: Crazy conservative turns Obama into a baseball metaphor

  • Who seriously thought this was a good idea? JibJab is one thing, but this is seriously the unfunniest thing we’ve ever seen. And we’ve seen a lot of unfunny things in our time.

Culture: Speaking of the iPad, this Doritos parody is completely perfect

  • Check out the names. The first two are phonetic riffs on Apple’s Phil Schiller and Jony Ive, and the clip is pretty much amazing. At its core? Great marketing.

Culture: ChatRoulette officially over now that The Daily Show has covered it

  • That “Mexican food” analogy is painfully true. The Daily Show covered the topic du jour of the light media set – Chatroulette. He seems to agree with us on its faddish nature, except while noting the high level of nudity. Then, Stewart takes a spin through the site, which he jokes is loaded with reporters, and finds some – including a hilarious self-parody by Keith Olbermann and a bunch of other famous faces (Katie Couric and Brian Williams – sweet!).
