Biz: Dear Google: Don’t bend to newspaper publishers so easily. It’s not cool.

  • First Click Free = Massive Fail. OK, we get it guys. Rupert Murdoch complains really loudly and he’s starting to scare you into believing other publishers might be next. But why are you putting your tail between your legs and creating technology designed to limit how much people can read without registration or subscription? Rupert Murdoch’s complaining doesn’t scare us. “First Click Free,” however, totally does. The very idea goes against everything your company stands for. Retreat, Google, retreat. source

Tech, U.S.: Free speech trumps hate speech for Google In Michelle Obama case

  • Although Google reserves the right to address such requests individually, Google views the integrity of our search results as an extremely important priority. Accordingly, we do not remove a page from our search results simply because its content is unpopular or because we receive complaints concerning it.
  • A message from Google • Describing their decision to keep a now-removed racist image of Michelle Obama on the site. It wasn’t for reasons of racism, but rather the integrity of the results. The image, which grotesquely portrayed Obama as a monkey, has since been removed by its Chinese owner, who apologized for putting it online, as well as the controversy it caused. source

Tech: Is Google’s Chrome OS really just Android OS with less paint?

  • It is easy to understand why Google wants to keep Chrome OS and Android separated in our minds: Chrome OS seems revolutionary, if a bit far-fetched. Android, by comparison, is the evolution of what are already doing.
  • PC World tech columnist David Coursey • Explaining the issue that rears its ugly head with Chrome OS – people don’t understand the difference between Google’s two operating systems. Coursey’s argument? Google is essentially selling the same thing twice, but Chrome OS does significantly less than Android OS does. Source

Tech: Google’s street view: Not blurry enough for the Swiss

Screen-shot-2009-11-14-at-10.51.39-AM
  • Haven’t you Swiss jerks caused enough trouble? First, you totally flip the neutrality switch and arrest Roman Polanski and now you’re going to claim that Google’s Street View isn’t blurry enough and doesn’t obscure faces and that sort of thing very well? You know, Switzerland, in America, we like our diminished privacy with a side of bacon. And some of the best home fries you’ve ever eaten. In a diner that used to be an IHOP until someone decided that it wasn’t good enough to be an IHOP and took away the franchise rights. We don’t complain about blurriness. Neither should you.source

Tech: Dell’s smartphones bored the U.S. market, so off to China they go!

  • Oh, and Brazil too, but still … not the U.S. Dell’s Mini 3, anew Google Android-based smartphone, has no shot of really gaining a foothold in the U.S. It’s Dell (boring computers) doing a smartphone (boring smartphones). So, rather than waste all that energy trying to impress American customers who already have iPhones, Pres and Droids to gawk at, they’ve decided to strike out on two different markets which aren’t so staked out by these phones. Good luck selling your boring phones, Dell. source
