Culture: Brazilian backlash: Sylvester Stallone pisses off an entire country

  • Bad move, old action star. Stallone, shown here with Jason Statham in the upcoming (and still awesome-sounding) “The Expendables,” said a couple of stupid things during Comic-Con. Here’s what he said about shooting the movie in the country to get Twitter in a tizzy: “You can shoot people and blow things up and they say, ‘Thank you! Take a monkey home with you!'” source

Tech, U.S.: Free speech trumps hate speech for Google In Michelle Obama case

  • Although Google reserves the right to address such requests individually, Google views the integrity of our search results as an extremely important priority. Accordingly, we do not remove a page from our search results simply because its content is unpopular or because we receive complaints concerning it.
  • A message from Google • Describing their decision to keep a now-removed racist image of Michelle Obama on the site. It wasn’t for reasons of racism, but rather the integrity of the results. Offbeat: Fewer calories means longer life, fewer Frappuccinos

  • They tested it on primates. Seriously. Admit it, you like eating. And not just anything. Absolute garbage. Drinks with more calories than many meals. Burgers loaded with layer upon layer of meat, cheese, secret sauce … you get the idea. Well, if you want to live longer, maybe you shouldn’t. According to a study that involved cutting calories of monkeys, they found just 13% of monkeys who had their calorie intake limited died during the 20-year testing period, versus 37% of monkeys who chose to gorge as much as they wanted. So, next time … get the small Frappuccino, and thank us later. source
