  • scarier Or the bottles could contain pills from other Novartis products, like Percocet, Endocet, Opana and Zydone. So far, the company is unaware of any reported side effects from this foul-up. Production has been shut down in the plant responsible for the problems. source

World: This week in horror: Swiss therapist arrested for molestation

  • 122 disabled adults, children molested by therapist source
  • » The disgustingly evil are unabated: A 54-year-old man, name hitherto unknown, admitted to Swiss authorities that he had sexually abused over 100 people in the course of his career as a therapist to disabled adults and children. The police say they’ve identified 122 of the victims, and that the youngest was 1-year-old at the time of the abuse. Stories like these make everyday life harder and harder to stomach. Anybody know how to build an evil detector?

Culture: Should people be upset with the Swiss over Roman Polanski?

Extraditing Roman Polanski not in Swiss national interests -which are tax dodging, nazi gold and rapist harboring apparently.Mon Jul 12 13:27:47 via web

  • This is probably what a lot of people are thinking about Switzerland’s decision to let Roman Polanski run free again. The Swiss have a tendency of neutrality, and it’s put them into odd situations like this in the past. Should be fun to watch what happens next.

World: Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi apparently hates the Swiss

  • Let us wage jihad against Switzerland, Zionism and foreign aggression. Any Muslim in any part of the world who works with Switzerland is an apostate, is against Muhammad, God and the Koran.
  • Muammar Gaddafi • In waging jihad against the Swiss. The famously neutral country has angered Gaddafi both personally and religiously. The problem started when Gaddafi’s son, Hannibal, as well as his wife Aline Skaf, was arrested in Switzerland for allegedly assaulting two servants. Gaddafi reacted by removing billions of dollars of financial interests from Switzerland, removing diplomats, refusing visas to Swiss citizens and pretty much overreacting. It then escalated to the point where Gaddafi and many other Libyan officials can’t travel into the country, to which Gaddafi responded by blocking many European countries from getting visas to enter Libya. Oh, and the minaret ban didn’t help either. Sounds like someone needs diplomacy. source

World: Iran’s not too happy about Switzerland’s new minaret ban

  • Values such as tolerance, dialogue and respecting others’ religions should never be put to referendum.
  • Iranian foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki • Speaking to his Swiss counterpart about the referendum that led to a ban on minarets. He warns that there could be consequences for the country long-term. For those keeping score at home: Iran is 90% Muslim, but (despite the image of leaders being completely unaccepting of other religions and faiths) does allow Christian churches and Jewish synagogues to be built in the country. There have been complaints about this being difficult, though. Switzerland and Iran have a tight relationship, by the way, due to the Swiss acting as an intermediary between the U.S. and Iran. source

Politics: Here’s what one jerk says about the Swiss minaret ban referendum

  • Forced marriages and other things like cemeteries separating the pure and impure – we don’t have that in Switzerland, and we do not want to introduce it. Therefore, there’s no room for minarets in Switzerland.
  • Ulrich Schlueer • Co-president of the Initiative Committee to ban minarets in Switzerland. Nothing like the small of racism in the morning, or at the very least, a wedge issue to emphasize our differences in an ugly way. source

World: In an anti-Muslim move, the Swiss appear likely to ban minarets

  • What is up with the Swiss? First the bank accounts, then Roman Polanski, now this. It’s like we don’t know you anymore. Anyway, it appears likely that the country will constitutionally ban minarets – one of the strongest physical features of most mosques – after a referendum. 59% of those who voted favored the ban, according to exit polls. source

Culture: Roman Polanski’s thankful for doing house arrest in style

polanskihouse1126

  • This Swiss-chalet-shaped thing is probably gonna be Roman Polanski’s version of prison after this whole paying-bail mess is over. It’s so nice that he’ll probably have no desire to flee – which is probably why they’re gonna let him do it. source
