Politics: Will the Illinois Supreme Court take Rahm Emanuel’s case?

  • I don’t think anybody really expected that result. And I don’t know that it will hold up once it goes to the Illinois Supreme Court.
  • Northwestern University law professor (and former Illinois State Senator) Dawn Clark Netsch • Explaining why she feels that the decision to disallow Rahm to run for mayor of Chicaco Chicago (sorry) was a bad one and will likely get overturned. Not everyone feels that way, but the decision did come as a bit of a surprise to everyone involved. It sucks to be Rahm right now – even if he can succeed at getting this decision overturned (the Illinois Supreme Court doesn’t exactly pull itself out of the crypt for any loser’s appeal), it’s quite possible that his name may not be on a bunch of ballots. Uh-oh. source

Tech: Minecraft’s success, while pretty cool, utterly baffles us

  • Maybe we’re showing our age, but we don’t get why Minecraft has gotten a disproportionate level of hype. It’s made its developer lots of money, though it’s effectively a really next-level version of Lego with a multiplayer element. Oh, and those pseudo-8-bit graphics are a nice touch. These are elements of a good game, but a multi-level success like Minecraft? Color us impressed. In this clip over here, some guy built an 8-mile long train tunnel using the game. And last week we saw that someone made a to-scale version of the Star Trek Enterprise. Really? People have this much time to spend on this game?

Culture: More heartwarming celebrity news: Bret Michaels hired by Trump

  • Lately it seems like me just standing up is risking my life.
  • “Celebrity Apprentice” winner Bret Michaels • In response to a question posed by Donald Trump: “Are you risking your life being here? This is a lot of pressure.” Michaels not only stood up to the pressure but he won the entire thing. He flew from New York to Los Angeles despite the advice of doctors. But it was worth it. source

Politics: This should wake you up: Hillary Clinton, Supreme Court nominee?

  • Whoa, what did he just say? Our boy Orrin Hatch was on The Today Show this morning and dropped this bombshell. Hillary Clinton is a possibility for Supreme Court justice. If this is true, it’d be a major change for the court, because everyone knows Hillary and she’d already come with a long history. Oh, and she just ran for president a year or two ago.

Politics: In Massachusetts, being gay and Republican a non-issue

  • Is this the most casual self-outing by a gay Republican in the history of politics or what?
  • The Boston Phoenix • In an article last week discussing the coming out by Richard Tisei in the Boston Globe. Tisei is the state Senate Minority Leader and new running mate for gubernatorial challenger Charles D. Baker. He put his coming out like this: “It is not exactly a news flash. I don’t think people really care these days.” As Massachusetts has had legalized gay marriage for over five years now, that is a refreshing stance to take. Now, if only the rest of the country could follow Massachusetts’ lead. source
