U.S.: The Rahminator is DA GUY in Chicago: Rahm wins Mayoral race

  • $12M shoved into the race by Rahm’s campaign – way more than anyone else
  • 86% of precincts counted in today’s vote so far (so, like almost all of them)
  • 55% Rahm’s share of the vote, which means he faces no runoff source

U.S.: Anyone want some Rahm-less Chicago mayoral ballots?

  • There are reportedly 280,000 of these things that got printed off between Monday (when an appeals court said Rahm Emanuel wasn’t eligible to run for Chicago mayor) and Tuesday (when the Illinois Supreme court stepped in), lacking Rahm Emanuel’s presidentially-boosted name, and now they’re going to have to find something to do with them. Our suggestion? Turn them into mulch for Rahm to bury his opponents’ electoral chances in. Oh yeah, why did these idiots start printing out these ballots on the day of the decision to appeal? Everyone with a brain could tell this case was going to go to the Illinois Supreme Court. A huge waste of taxpayer money. source

Politics: Will the Illinois Supreme Court take Rahm Emanuel’s case?

  • I don’t think anybody really expected that result. And I don’t know that it will hold up once it goes to the Illinois Supreme Court.
  • Northwestern University law professor (and former Illinois State Senator) Dawn Clark Netsch • Explaining why she feels that the decision to disallow Rahm to run for mayor of Chicaco Chicago (sorry) was a bad one and will likely get overturned. Not everyone feels that way, but the decision did come as a bit of a surprise to everyone involved. It sucks to be Rahm right now – even if he can succeed at getting this decision overturned (the Illinois Supreme Court doesn’t exactly pull itself out of the crypt for any loser’s appeal), it’s quite possible that his name may not be on a bunch of ballots. Uh-oh. source

Politics: Rahm Emanuel wins award for “biggest guest star in mayoral race”

Doesn’t matter who the other guy brought to his pep rally in Chicago. RAHM BROUGHT SLICK WILLY! Rahm wins the PR battle. (Unless the other guy brings Obama.) But will he win the election? source

Politics: Chicago mayoral race: Danny Davis chooses not to split the vote

Davis, who’s been very critical of Rahm Emanuel’s mayoral run, is out. This is smart, because he’s putting his energy behind fellow black candidate Carol Moseley Braun, a former senator. source

Politics: Chicago politician: News release a personal note to Bill Clinton

  • You just wouldn’t want your friends to be campaigning against you. I’ve enjoyed a great friendship and relationship and have a tremendous amount of affinity for both the Clintons … and I’d like to keep it that way.
  • Rep. Danny Davis • Suggesting that Bill Clinton would be jeopardizing his friendship with Davis if the former president endorsed Rahm Emanuel over Davis or Carol Mosley Braun, the other black candidate running for Chicago mayor. Davis was responding to an earlier news release where he suggested Clinton’s relationship with the black community in Chicago would be “fractured and perhaps even broken” if he went to stump for Emanuel. Davis suggested the news release was a personal appeal to Clinton. Wait wait wait … personal appeals do not come in press release form. Call him if you want to talk to him. News releases mean you want to start crap with a popular former president out in public, so you’re telling the press. source

Politics: Rahm Emanuel leads mayoral race – if he’s eligible to even run

  • If Rahm Emanuel still lives in Chicago, he’ll probably be its next mayor. See, Emanuel is facing lots of questions over his residency, due to the fact that he lived in D.C. while he was Obama’s Chief of Staff. He never changed over his license, though, and owns a home in the city. Thing is, though, he had a guy renting his apartment while he lived elsewhere, and while he paid the bills, he wasn’t living in the home full-time (for obvious reasons). Around 30 residents are challenging his eligibility to run for mayor; the court has been hearing his case all week. Thing is, if Rahm can get through this roadbump, he’ll be the guy most likely to win. With two months to go, here’s how he’s doing in the polls:
  • 32% of those polled would vote for Rahm “I still live here!” Emanuel
  • 30% the share of undecideds in the Chicago mayoral race (understandable)
  • 34% the combined polling of five non-Rahm mayoral candidates source

Politics: Rahm Emanuel pretending to listen to Chicago residents today

  • You are going to be asked some hardball questions and get your bat out. Welcome to Chicago.
  • Chicago resident Paul Johnson • Offering up some pretty necessary advice for our boy Rahm Emanuel, who’s working on his Chicago mayoral campaign as we speak. There are some residency issues that the Rahmster is currently trying to work out, and he’s in town as part of a campaign to shore up his lived-here-all-my-life credentials. “The Board of Elections will decide this, that’s the proper place,” Emanuel said. “So in the next five, six weeks, let’s have a debate about these issues that the residents of Chicago care about, not my residency.” Should be fun to see if it actually plays out that way. source

Politics: So, Rahm Emanuel hired Obama’s design firm for mayoral run

  • Something looks familiar. We don’t know what it is. There’s something about the colors. The fonts. The shading. The simple boldness of the design. We feel like we’ve seen this before. What do you guys think? Is our boy Rahm a big fan of Gotham, or is it something else? source
