Politics: Max headroom: SNL parodies Fox News, Lindsey Graham goes DOA

  • Health care DOA? On “Face the Nation” today, Sen. Lindsey Graham trashed the health care bill like he was throwing it in a compactor and then burning it. Pulling no punches, he said it was DOA and had no chance of passing in the Senate. Harsh words.

  • His district’s needs Joseph Cao’s biggest sticking point was abortion; with that decided, he made a “decision of conscience” based on his low-income district’s needs. Cao’s district covers areas of New Orleans heavily damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

  • Fox News farce Last night, “Saturday Night Live” had one of the best Fox News parodies we’ve seen. Best quote comes from “Karl Rove”: “Let’s not forget that it was under HIS watch that we lost the King of Pop.” And “Glenn Beck” is pretty dead-on too.

Politics: So, why did Joseph Cao vote yes? The abortion amendment.

  • A rare politician that doesn’t care about partisanship. Kudos. Joseph Cao may face harsh criticism from the right on his vote, but he’s fully behind it. On his site, he writes: “I have always said that I would put aside partisan wrangling to do the business of the people.” The turning point for him? The amendment blocking federal funding of abortions with the health care bill. A loss for pro-choice advocates, but a huge win for health care supporters in general. source

Politics: Wikipedia moves faster on Joseph Cao than everyone else

  • When you Google Joseph Cao, the text that comes up in the search says, ‘Joseph Cao has no family. He was born of Satan and lost a soul the day he voted against republicans. Cao’s father, My Quang Cao (born 1931), …’
  • An unsigned Wikipedia comment on the Joseph Cao talk page • Noting the speed at which his page was updated to come across as an evil liberal-supporting spawn of Satan. We hope that Mr. Cao threw baseballs around with his satanic father every once in a while. (Via @andrewottoson) • source

Politics: The speech we missed Sarah Palin give on election day 2008

  • It’s been just 68 days since that afternoon in Dayton, Ohio, when Sen. McCain introduced me as his running mate. He is truly the maverick. My fellow Americans, tens of millions of you shared our convictions and gave us your votes. And I thank you for your confidence. We were facing tough odds and formidable opponents.
  • The words of 2008 vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin • In a speech she would have given had John McCain won the presidency last year. Palin didn’t get to give a losing speech, either – McCain’s handlers decided it was best to let the old man handle the loss himself. If the former Alaska governor had given a losing speech, she would have said this: “I wish Barack Obama well as the 44th president of the United States. If he governs America with the skill and grace we have often seen in him, and the greatness of which he is capable, we’re gonna be just fine.” This is painful to look at now, considering how dirty American politics have gotten. • source

Politics: We’re glad this bigoted, homophobic jerk got fired, Fox News.

  • I found it offensive that she repeatedly brought it up. By the fourth time she mentioned it, I felt God wanted me to express how I felt about the matter, so I did. But my tone was downright apologetic. I said, ‘Regarding your homosexuality, I think that’s bad stuff.’
  • Former Brookstone Second Deputy Manager Peter Vidala • Describing the events that led to his firing. Fox News is attempting to play the Massachusetts man’s story off as if he’s the victim, but he clearly discriminated against a co-worker by telling her she shouldn’t get married to her lesbian partner. We hope he was not only fired, but thrown on his @(^. • source

Politics: The tea party continues. Couldn’t they call it the “McRib tour” instead?

  • If the Fort Hood shooting didn’t happen, this probably would’ve been the day’s big story. A bunch of right-leaners met up at the Capitol today to stir up some )#&@ with Congress, in an effort to break the health care bill. Mark Levin is kind of a leader of the movement. Here’s a video of him speaking today. At the link is a transcript of the other person involved, Michelle Bachmann, talking on Glenn Beck. Enjoy!source

Politics: On Muslims, terrorism, Fort Hood, and crazies.

  • Let’s not jump to conclusions. One of the biggest problems with the 24-hour news cycle is that a lot of misinformation gets out quickly. One of the SECOND biggest problems with the 24-hour news cycle is that many jump to conclusions, looking for an excuse to confirm their own biases and bigotry. Let’s step back a few moments and consider that A LOT OF PEOPLE JUST DIED. There will be time to consider all this stuff later, but for the love of God, let the story play out a little more before you decide to be a jerk and use this to push your agenda – no matter which side you’re on. Save that for later.

Politics: Holy crap, did you see Maine’s anti-gay-marriage ads?

  • Jesus Christ, wouldn’t you vote yes if you saw an ad this freaking scary-sounding? It makes gay marriage sound like a nightmare and a legal boondoggle. We’re kind of offended by the fact that scare tactics played such a huge role in this campaign. Even though more money went to the “No on 1” campaign, they still lost. Sigh.source
