About: In beta: ShortFormBlog’s new mobile site. (Exciting!!!!! (!!!))

  • Our backburner projectWe’ve wanted to do a proper mobile site for ShortFormBlog since we started this thang. A lot of things happened between then and now. First, we got a job. Second, we committed ourselves to posting on the site every day until the end of time. Then we redesigned. Then we freelanced for AOL News. Then we did a massive congressional spending project for AOL News. Now, 21 months later, here we are. We finally have a mobile site. Took us long enough.

The highlights• A simple, basic interface that lets the content shine on its own, complete with all the awesome content styles you love us for.
    • An effort to shove in as much of the big blog onto the little blog, complete with graceful degradation. YouTube clips will load as images.
    • Comments from Disqus! Like buttons! Ways to Tweet! A desire to want to throw your phone!

What we want from youTry it on your phones (it should work by loading http://shortformblog.com on your iPhone, iPod Touch or Android). Tell us what you jerks think! Hope you dig it.

Offbeat, U.S.: Strained acronym alert: US Air Force instates BATMAN program

  • Supposedly, it stands for “Battlefield Air Targeting Man-Aided (k)Nowledge,” but we all know they really just wanted to name the initiative after Batman. Why? The program aims to reduce the weight and burden of soldier’s equipment without reducing their efficiency and ability in the field. In other words, the Air Force wants their soldiers to have Bat Belts, so they’re trying to make their gear lighter. Hence, BATMAN. source

Politics: Montana GOP: 1997 called, said homosexuality should be illegal

  • We support the clear will of the people of Montana expressed by legislation to keep homosexual acts illegal.
  • The official Montana GOP stance on homosexuality • As expressed in the platform page on their Web site, under the “crime” section. It apparently was added back in 1997, before Matthew Shepard, before civil unions, before gay marriage in Massachusetts and other states, and before Prop 8. Uh, perhaps they should change that. source

Culture: Porn stars: We’re starving; pay for our greatest resource, porn

  • “This is my serious face.” No irony exists in this video, created a few months ago by a porn-industry group called the Free Speech Coalition and featuring numerous porn stars and behind-the-scenes figures, whose wholesome livelihoods are getting greatly damaged by the so-called “Tube” sites that offer a similar product for free. Apparently the popularity of those sites have knocked porn-company revenues down by a third or more. Which is why these porn stars decided to put their clothes on for a change. They’re all ready for the congressional hearing. source

Politics: Michael Bloomberg decides to put his muscle behind the center

  • Backing Harry Reid and Meg Whitman. Pushing for cooperation. Where have you been? The NYC mayor, known for both his high-spending ways and his love of the iPad, has been starting to put some of his weight into a bunch of key national political campaigns lately. Bloomberg, a Republican-turned-independent, has been making a concerted effort to help encourage more agreeability in Congress. Could Bloomberg, who thinks the Tea Party is a fad, run for president? He’d be someone we’d at least look at. source

World: Iran hostages: Ahmadinejad wants the U.S. to scratch his back

  • From a moral viewpoint, there is an expectation that the US takes a step … There is an expectation in public opinion to release some of them.
  • Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad • Suggesting that he might let the other two hikers go if the U.S. lets go some of the Iranian hostages they’re holding. At last count, Iran said that 11 hostages were in U.S. custody. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had a pretty good response to Ahmadinejad’s request, regarding the other two hikers still being held: “It would be a very significant humanitarian gesture for the Iranians to release them as well,” she said. Oh, come on! Nobody expects it to be that easy! source
