Politics: “No Labels”: The center, annoyed by the election, goes Tea Party

  • You screw over the moderates, they’re gonna organize. That appears to be the message of “No Labels,” a new citizen-focused political group that includes such spurned political figures as Michael “Moderate God” Bloomberg, “Morning” Joe Scarborough, Mike “screwed by Christine O’Donnell” Castle, Charlie “screwed by Marco Rubio” Crist and Evan “I’ve had enough of this crap so I’m quitting the Senate” Bayh among its ranks. Each of those guys will be taking part in the webcast the group will use to launch its platform: “Not left. Not right. Forward.” We expect the partisans (on both sides) to dismiss this crazy idea in 3 … 2 … 1 … source

Politics: Michael Bloomberg decides to put his muscle behind the center

  • Backing Harry Reid and Meg Whitman. Pushing for cooperation. Where have you been? The NYC mayor, known for both his high-spending ways and his love of the iPad, has been starting to put some of his weight into a bunch of key national political campaigns lately. Bloomberg, a Republican-turned-independent, has been making a concerted effort to help encourage more agreeability in Congress. Could Bloomberg, who thinks the Tea Party is a fad, run for president? He’d be someone we’d at least look at. source

Politics: Senate update: The Democrats have 60 votes for health care!

  • Although I don’t agree with everything in this bill, I have concluded that I believe it is more important that we begin this debate to improve our nation’s health care system for all Americans rather than just simply drop the issue and walk away.
  • Arkansas Sen. Blanche Lincoln • On her reason for agreeing to allow the Senate bill to go to discussion. Her move gives the Democrats 60 votes. Reminder: This is only a vote to discuss health care. None of the moderate Democrats have agreed to a final vote, just more discussion. source

Politics: Olympia Snowe could get snowed out by her own party

  • Well of course there is an audience that would love to see Olympia Snowe out of office, within the ranks of social conservatives, that’s for certain.
  • Family Research Council Action PAC president Connie Mackey • Describing social conservatives’ newfound desire to get moderate Maine Senator Olympia Snowe out of office. The group is encouraged by a recent study by Public Policy Polling that showed Snowe would lose 59%-31% to a generic Republican challenger in a primary. For some reason, they think it’s a good idea to make their party more conservative, not less. We just don’t understand it. (hat tip Andrew Sullivan) • source
