Culture: Survey participants deny paying for online porn

  • 2% of Internet users pay for pornography source
  • » Really? Only 2%? Not that we’re, uhh, experts on online pornography, but 2% sounds really, really low. These statistics are hard to come by, but one site reported that over $3,000 is spent on pornography every minute. We smell shenanigans. And by “shenanigans,” we mean “people lying to an interviewer because they’re embarrassed about paying for porn.” On the other hand, considering how ubiquitous free porn is on the internet, maybe 2% isn’t that low after all.

Culture: Porn stars: We’re starving; pay for our greatest resource, porn

  • “This is my serious face.” No irony exists in this video, created a few months ago by a porn-industry group called the Free Speech Coalition and featuring numerous porn stars and behind-the-scenes figures, whose wholesome livelihoods are getting greatly damaged by the so-called “Tube” sites that offer a similar product for free. Apparently the popularity of those sites have knocked porn-company revenues down by a third or more. Which is why these porn stars decided to put their clothes on for a change. They’re all ready for the congressional hearing. source

Culture: Laurence Fishburne’s daughter using porn as a career plan?!

  • I’ve watched how successful Kim Kardashian became and I think a lot of it was due to the release of her sextape.
  • A quote reportedly attributed to Montana Fishburne • Regardng her planned career path as a porn star. The daughter of the “Matrix,” “Pee-Wee’s Playhouse” and “Apocalypse Now” (remember that?) actor apparently filmed a tape with Vivid Entertainment which will apparently be released in August. Unlike her hero, she’s actually TRYING to get her name out using porn. Is this what our society has come to? Seriously? source

Tech: Guy on new .xxx domains: “It’s been a long time coming”

  • It’s been a long time coming … The decision should soon bring to fruition our six-year effort to create a specific Web address for online adult entertainment, and comes on the heels of an independent review that declared that ICANN’s previous decision to deny dot-xxx was wrong.
  • ICM Registry Chairman Stuart Lawley • Cheering the decision to allow new .xxx domains specifically for porn sites. Wait … is that really what he said in that first line? That sounds like the kind of dirty joke that he’s probably been saving up for this moment. He also claimed to be “excited” by the move. Can we just call Stuart Lawley a double-entendre machine already? source

Biz, U.S.: Our latest AOL News article tackles the SEC’s strange porn habit

  • Did some SEC employees have too much time on their hands? Last week, a lot of the buzz on the ‘net was around revelations that SEC staffers were caught looking at porn. But it’s not as bad as it looks. According to a study we found, 28 percent of people at your average cubicle farm (like this one) look at porn at work (we know, right?!). An internal investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission nailed around one percent of their employees. And we think we know why they were so bored. Read our latest AOL News article for some insight. source

Tech: Adult entertainment continues its long history of tech innovation

  • Every step of the way, when there’s a new technology, we explore it. In the adult business, many times the traditional venues are not available to us, so we have to be innovative to get our content to the consumer. With adult content, you need to create your own solutions.
  • Private Media Group CEO Ilan Bunimovitz • Regarding the company’s push to get streaming HTML5 video on the iPad. The cloud system is innovative, but gets around the whole app store getup. Beyond the iPad though, innovation is taking hold in other ways for adult entertainment. One company is blowing $4 million on “3D Zen and Sex,” a 3D porn film which promises will be unlike any you’ve seen before. In other words, the long history of innovation in adult entertainment continues unabated. source

Music: Lady Gaga’s new video, “Telephone” might as well be porn

  • We’re not sure what offends us more about this video – the obvious advertising (we counted Diet Coke, Virgin Mobile, PlentyOfFish.com, Little Debbie, Wonder Bread and Miracle Whip), the use of trash as clothing accessory, the use of Quentin Tarantino’s famous “#*#*@ Wagon,” the awful dialogue between Gaga and Beyonce halfway through the video, the bizarre shot of Gaga making a sandwich, Beyonce’s dreadful “I knew you’d take all my honey, you selfish mother(#(&@#” line, the fact that Lady Gaga poisoned a room full of people, or the fact that the title font is the same font as our logo font. Actually, that last part offends us most.
