Tech: 4chan blocked by Verizon Wireless. Will they ever learn?

  • You just don’t block 4chan. You just don’t. Back in July, the site – which revels in offensiveness and the more controversial end of free speech – was blocked by AT&T over reports of a denial of service attack, later found to be caused by a “network error.” The case with Verizon Wireless, however (which doesn’t affect landline DSL connections, by the way), was based on content. Site owner moot was told the site was “explicitly blocked” by the company. Net neutrality was created for this reason, guys. source

Tech: Google underestimates the uses of Chrome’s “Incognito Mode”

  • For times when you want to browse in stealth mode, for example, to plan surprises like gifts or birthdays, Google Chrome offers the incognito browsing mode.
  • A note on the Google Chrome help page • Regarding the site’s incognito mode, which allows one to hide their browsing habits from their cache. This is hilarious, because everyone knows the feature’s in there to hide people’s porn browsing habits. It’s possible, though, that the surprise gift might be porn. source

Offbeat: Protip: If you work at a financial firm, don’t look at porn. Ever.

  • Macquarie Group Australia had a pretty awesome gaffe happen on live TV thanks to one of their bumbling workers, who decided to look at porn while an analyst was getting interviewed for a financial program. Best part of the video is the very end. A classic of the form. The guy responsible could be in huge trouble, by the way. (Duh.) source

World: China’s trying to block all the things that make the Web awesome

  • If they do not take up proper actions, they will be held for the breach of duty. In those serious cases, the corporate representatives will be forced to apologies to the public and promise to correct their wrong-doings in public.
  • The Chinese government • In a statement regarding the blocking of mobile porn sites. China’s trying really hard to assert control over the ‘net, specifically blocking porn and social networking to keep its people at bay. The Iranian protests, in particular, showed them the power of social networking, and now they’re trying to put that genie in the bottle. We hope their attempts fail. source

Offbeat: Men who don’t watch porn, raise your hand. *crickets*

  • A study falsely assumed that some men don’t watch porn. boy, were they wrong. University of Montreal Professor Simon Louis Lajeunesse had a great idea for a study – let’s look at the views of men who don’t watch porn. He found it impossible, due to the fact that he couldn’t find any. Instead, his study focused on the viewing habits of men who watch it (which are fairly normal). Nice save, bro. source

Tech: We’re convinced Apple’s Magic Mouse is gratuitous nerd porn.

  • We know, we know. There have been a lot of tech-oriented articles on the site today. But that’s because there’s been a lot of really awesome tech toys on the radar today. But really, the biggest one is Apple’s new Magic Mouse, which combines the multitouch technology the company has been flaunting on the Macbooks for nearly a year with the Mighty Mouse, a mouse that sounded like a better idea than it actually was (because the tiny ball didn’t live up to the hype). But watching this video, we’re convinced that this device is purely pornographic. Magic Mouse? More like Magic Fingers. source

Culture: The porn industry is no longer recession-proof, guys

  • 30-50% estimated decline in revenues for the porn industry during the recession; stars are getting paid less, too
  • 2,000 fewer porn films are being made now than in previous years; free porn on the Internet is (in part) to blame source

Culture: In a world of bizarre porn parodies, this TMZ one takes the cake

  • Ron Jeremy as Harvey Levin. No, really. Obviously, we’re a safe for work site and we’re not linking to a porn site, but we’d be terrible at our job if we didn’t inform you of the existence of TMSlease, a parody of TMZ (and celebrity culture in general) which takes a look at gossip culture through porn. Ron Jeremy, by the way, does a great Harvey Levin parody. (The link leads to Gawker, BTW.) source
