Sports: Jay Cutler says the Broncos never actually reached him

  • A simple, terse, “no” text message says it all. Cutler, who wanted a trade, and is now getting one apparently, did not get contacted repeatedly like the Broncos made it seem earlier today. Cutler’s agent, Bus Cook, in fact noted that they had only tried to contact him (not Jay, who noted the lack of contact via text message) on Tuesday, and the trade news was a bit of a shock. “I heard from Jay when he called to tell me he just saw on TV he was being traded,” Cook said. “They can spin it the way they want to spin it.” Draaaaaaaaama. source

Sports: The Denver Broncos sure fumbled that Jay Cutler thing

  • A conversation with his agent earlier today clearly communicated and confirmed to us that Jay no longer has any desire to play for the Denver Broncos.
  • Pat Bowlen • Broncos owner, on their franchise player, quarterback Jay Cutler, who they (especially coach Josh McDaniels) treated like crud, tried to untreat like crud and now will have to trade because he no longer wants to play for them. *forehead slap* Good job, guys. • source

Sports: T.O. didn’t think the Cowboys would kick him to the curb

  • You hear all the speculation, and you talk to the owner of the team, and he reassures you, you’re not going anywhere and then, out of left-field & you get blindsided.
  • Terrell Owens • Talking about his relationship with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and how, in his opinion, Jones was pressured to remove him from the team by a few people in his ear. Owens eventually landed on his feet with the Buffalo Bills. • source

Ah, Terrell, you were just too much for the Cowboys. And, uh, well, everyone else. source

Sports: You’re good Matt Cassel, but you’re no Tom Brady. See ya!

  • The replacement QB got traded to Kansas City. Cassel, formerly of the New England Patriots, spent years waiting in the wings behind Tom Brady, and he finally had his chance to prove himself after Brady had a knee injury. And he did, leading the team to a solid season and getting 21 TDs in the process. But that solid season didn’t compare to Brady’s epic, near-undefeated 2007. So off to the Chiefs (with Mike Vrabel) he goes. source

Sports: Marvin Harrison: Leaving Indy because of the salary cap

  • It will be strange to line up under center and not see No. 88 out on my right. He is a Hall-of-Fame receiver, I am proud to have played with him, and he will always be an Indianapolis Colt in my book.
  • Peyton Manning • On his former wide receiver, Marvin Harrison, perhaps one of the Indianapolis Colts’ best players of all time. Harrison had to leave the team because the Colts could no longer afford to have him. Harrison would have counted $13.6 million against the salary cap, the highest in the NFL when it comes to receivers. • source

Sports: New York Giants: Yeah, Plaxico probably isn’t coming back

  • We’ll prepare as if he’s not going to be here, and if he is, it’s a bonus.
  • Jerry Reese • New York Giants general manager, on Plaxico Burress’ status. The Super-Bowl-winning wide receiver has been a giant question mark since he shot himself in the leg at a New York nightclub, then got charged with a felony for the (admittedly pretty stupid) deed. • source
