Culture: David Lynch to open “Club Silencio” in Paris

  • David Lynch opening predictably odd nightclub: Perhaps you’re familiar with filmmaker David Lynch, whose movies are broadly seen as prime examples of inscrutable, “outer-edge” American cinema — perhaps none quite as famous as 2001’s Mulholland Drive. Well, yesterday came word that Lynch is in the works of designing and opening “Club SIlencio,” a 1920’s style Parisian nightclub modeled after the Mulholland Drive location of the same name. We’ll be honest, this is rather shocking to us. We could imagine George Lucas opening a fake Mos Eisley Cantina, for example, but David Lynch’s “Club SIlencio?” Just too weird. source

Sports: Sucky fate for a former Superhero: Plaxico Burress is going to jail

  • I think in this case a fundamentally decent man, who violated the law, is going to be sentenced to a prison sentence. But I do not believe, under the circumstances of this case, we are sentencing a criminal in the true sense of he word.
  • Lawyer Benjamin Brafman • Discussing the Plaxico Burress case after his sentencing. Burress got sentenced to two years in prison today, and will likely spend 20 months in jail as a result of the incident, where he brought a gun into a nightclub and accidentally shot himself in the leg. A bit harsh considering he was the one who got hurt, but he had an expired license for the gun in a different state. Just two seasons ago, Burress, a former New York Giant, was the star of the show at the Super Bowl. • source

  • We’ll prepare as if he’s not going to be here, and if he is, it’s a bonus.
  • Jerry Reese • New York Giants general manager, on Plaxico Burress’ status. The Super-Bowl-winning wide receiver has been a giant question mark since he shot himself in the leg at a New York nightclub, then got charged with a felony for the (admittedly pretty stupid) deed. • source
