Biz: Bernie’s in the slammah, swagga like a ROCK STAR

  • Their impression almost unanimously was that he landed like a rock star. He was a celebrity, he had groupies, he had people clamoring for his advice, and his autograph.
  • New York magazine reporter Steve Fishman • Talking about his profile piece on Bernie Madoff, which seems to portray him like a Jay-Z like super-celeb for bilking all those rich people out of their money. Madoff reveled in his newfound infamy, and one inmate puts like so: “If I’d lived that well for 70 years, I wouldn’t care that I ended up in prison.” Let’s face it. Is he wrong? source

Music: See ya in a year, Lil Wayne! He’s heading to prison on gun charges

  • We’ll try to keep the music scene warm for you, man. Wayne, who’s going to plea guilty to gun charges today, will have to start his prison sentence immediately, as per the plea bargain he has. Due to his growing up in a rough neighborhood, he might have a better handle on jail than other celebrities of his stature, but definitely don’t expect him to be treated like a normal prisoner. He’s just too famous. source

Sports: Sucky fate for a former Superhero: Plaxico Burress is going to jail

  • I think in this case a fundamentally decent man, who violated the law, is going to be sentenced to a prison sentence. But I do not believe, under the circumstances of this case, we are sentencing a criminal in the true sense of he word.
  • Lawyer Benjamin Brafman • Discussing the Plaxico Burress case after his sentencing. Burress got sentenced to two years in prison today, and will likely spend 20 months in jail as a result of the incident, where he brought a gun into a nightclub and accidentally shot himself in the leg. A bit harsh considering he was the one who got hurt, but he had an expired license for the gun in a different state. Just two seasons ago, Burress, a former New York Giant, was the star of the show at the Super Bowl. • source
