Biz: “Made in China” means it costs more in China than the U.S.

  • $460 added cost of an Apple laptop in China versus the U.S. – partly due to tariffs
  • $240 added cost of a flat-screen TV in China versus the same TV in the U.S.
  • 25¢ added cost of a can of Budweiser in China (even though it’s brewed locally) source

U.S.: Cleveland too small for Braylon Edwards & LeBron James

  • monday Cleveland Browns star Braylon Edwards was accused of assaulting a good friend of Cleveland Cavaliers star Lebron James outside of a nightclub.
  • wednesday Braylon Edwards was traded to the NY Jets; many think that it was because of the incident. Yes, Lebron is powerful enough to get a football player traded. source

Sports: Richard Seymour “blindsided” by unexpected trade to Oakland

  • I was blindsided by this whole event, When you get blindsided, you should take a moment to gather your thoughts. I have a lot of personal issues more pressing than football.
  • New Oakland Raider Richard Seymour • On getting traded from the New England Patriots. Seymour, a five-time Pro-Bowler, was traded last week and found himself in an unenviable position of trying to move his entire family out of the Boston area within a week. As a result, his family situation – he has a wife and four kids, plus is his cousin’s legal guardian – has gotten ultra-complicated. Seymour will live in Oakland by himself, while the rest of his family moves back to South Carolina. The Raiders have sent Seymour a letter saying he needed to be in Oakland in five days or he would forfeit his season. • source

Sports: Matt Holliday: Worthy of a big trade, not above riding Amtrak

  • Getting from New York to Philly on a Friday afternoon can be tough. I’m extremely excited to be back in the National League, to be back in a pennant race. This is a great team, a great organization.
  • St. Louis Cardinals slugger Matt Holliday • Who earlier in the day on Friday was a member of the Oakland Athletics. The Athletics were playing in NYC, while the Cards were playing in Philly, so he went the public transit route to scoot between cities. The star hitter was traded for a bunch of minor-league prospects and is seen as the final piece of a roster that will help the Cardinals make a pennant run. • source

Sports: Whoa: Shaq and Lebron are probably going to be on the same team

  • One of the NBA’s greats + one of the NBA’s rising greats? Shaq always works better when he’s in tandem with a hot property. Shaq and Penny. Shaq and Kobe. Shaq and Dwayne. Shaq and … Steve Nash? Which may be why he’s about to get traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers from the Phoenix Suns in a pre-draft big news moment. Now, Shaq isn’t the explosive superpower he was back in the day, but he still showed up in this year’s All-Star game. And he has the greatest Twitter feed ever. Which, strangely, hasn’t mentioned this yet. source

Sports: The Atlanta Braves decide fresh blood tops living legend

  • first Tom Glavine, one of the biggest stars in Atlanta Braves’ history, a guy who wanted to retire a Brave, was released by the team where he had his biggest success, including two Cy Young awards.
  • second But that’s OK, because the Braves also traded for relatively fresh hotness in the form of Pittsburgh Pirates all-star outfielder Nate McLouth. But he won’t win any Cy Youngs. (He’s not a pitcher.)

Sports: Da Bears on da new guy, Jay Cutler

  • He had some things that happened in Denver. We recognized those, but we treated them as just speed bumps, part of the growing process.
  • Chicago Bears general manager Jerry Angelo • Whose team traded to get Jay Cutler out of a strained situation with the Denver Broncos. They better like it; if he doesn’t work out, they just lost a couple of first-round picks for the honor. • source
