U.S.: A departing New York cardinal spices up the priestly celibacy debate

  • Hey, priests should have laaaaaaadies, too! Amid all the hullabaloo around the retirement of Edward M. Egan, some spare comments he made about allowing priests to marry has relit the flame to a long-standing debate in the Catholic Church. Egan told an Albany radio station regarding celibacy, “I think that it’s going to be discussed; it’s a perfectly legitimate discussion.” Allowing marriage might help reverse the shortage of priests that’s been dogging parishes lately. This may not happen, though. The Church doesn’t back down very easily. source

U.S., World: NASA takes the piss out of its urine recycler (for now),

  • *LOL* Sorry, we can’t help ourselves. Apparently, the urine recycler they’re testing on the International Space Station isn’t working quite right, so they’re shutting it down for now. The device is supposed to convert urine into wine … er, uh … water. There are so many bad, awful and terrible jokes we could make here, so maybe it’s time to stop. source

  • “We simply – we simply need them.” Christina Romer, an economic adviser for Obama, chatted with “Fox News Sunday” about the nature of “toxic,” i.e. uncertain, assets. Private investors are doing the administration a favor, she says, by not forcing the government to carry all of the weight of the toxic assets. Good for them.
