As you might remember, a few months back, Stephen Colbert attempted to win a contest to get a part of the International Space Station named after him. He won, but NASA chose to name this treadmill after him instead. Which, is still incredibly awesome. Admit it. source

World: Astronauts now have a place to drink lemonade, whittle time away

  • That’s right, the ISS has a porch now. The International Space Station attached an exposed porch, the last part of the Japanese Kibo laboratory, yesterday. The Kibo project, which cost $1 billion, is the station’s largest lab and the addition of the porch gives the many people on board a spot to chill and perform experiments. Kibo deputy project manager Tetsuro Yokoyama noted that “this was a proud moment,” talking about the porch like a brand-spankin’ new grill ready for a BBQ. We’d be that proud, too, Tetsuro. source

U.S., World: NASA takes the piss out of its urine recycler (for now),

  • *LOL* Sorry, we can’t help ourselves. Apparently, the urine recycler they’re testing on the International Space Station isn’t working quite right, so they’re shutting it down for now. The device is supposed to convert urine into wine … er, uh … water. There are so many bad, awful and terrible jokes we could make here, so maybe it’s time to stop. source
