Tech: Don’t bring iPads to Israel; it doesn’t fit their standards for tablets

  • They must have at least five commandments on them, minimum. Seriously, though, the iPad apparently does not meet standards for wi-fi in the country, which are the same as Europe’s. Kind of a stupid reason, by the way, considering there are MILLIONS of devices that support the form of wi-fi the iPad does. source

Tech: The most useless quote from Chirp comes from will.i.am

  • I love the world of social connectivity, the real-time responses and connections, the same thing that crippled the industry I live in. Now you can surf people’s thoughts.
  • will.i.am • Discussing why he likes Twitter. He seemed like a strange presence at the conference (especially after he suggested bands will have official programmers). And what a conference it is – Twitter introduced a bunch of crap that directly steps on the toes of what developers are already doing with the technology, going so far as to offer their own URL shortener. Well crap. There goes the neighborhood, kids. source

Tech: Sorry, world: Apparently, the iPad’s really popular in the U.S.

  • Faced with this surprisingly strong U.S. demand, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the international launch of iPad by one month, until the end of May.
  • A statement from Apple • Regarding the company’s decision to delay the international release of the tablet which we’re currently using to read tweets while blogging (Twitterrific for the win). The company says that they’ve already shipped half a million iPads but it appeared demand in the U.S. would top expectations for at least the next several weeks. We blame the awesome Reuters app. source

Tech, World: Protip to Web-censored countries: Use Opera. No, really

  • 32% of people in Kazakhstan use Opera for browsing source
  • » Why Opera, anyway?: Well, Opera has this Turbo Browsing mode that goes through a proxy. The feature is intended to make Web browsing faster, but has the side effect of getting around the country’s censorship law, which passed last year. Too bad the iPhone app sucks.

Tech: Twitter’s big revenue model: Advertising. Who didn’t expect that?

  • now Twitter will let companies buy ad tweets for certain keywords on searches. Well, that’s obvious.
  • later Twitter will show relevant promoted posts in the stream of tweets. That’s even moreso. source
