Offbeat: Granny DJ: Officially our new hero. Go away, Epic Beard Man

  • Yo Grandma! Get out the booth! Seriously, though, this British grandma knows how to mash some bangers better than we do, and that deserves some mad props. We hope she releases an album of French house that’s better than Justice’s.

Offbeat: 8-Bit NYC: An amazing video game visualization of New York City

  • For some reason, this is awesome. Someone decided to turn New York City into an 8-bit map, which actually is more useful than you’d think, and even makes a huge city seem a little less daunting. We approve, though we admit to clicking and hoping we were pulled into a level of Zelda where we got the opportunity to slay rich socialites. source

Offbeat: Fat guy puts his middle finger into a huge free speech battle

  • Robert Ekas dared to flick off a cop with his middle finger and got ticketed by the cops despite the fact he did nothing wrong otherwise. How did he handle it? He filed a lawsuit, claiming they violated his right to dissent. When you’re driving, it’s the best dissent tool available, apparently. It’d be funny to see if this went anywhere.

Offbeat: “You’re never too old to have your lowest moment aired” on KTLA

  • Damn, that looks painful. Joel McHale made fun of this local news clip, which rivals “Grape Lady Falls Down” for sheer hilarity. This 84-year-old pole vaulter didn’t exactly do this gracefully. But then again, KTLA didn’t exactly report it gracefully, either.

Offbeat: Atlanta I-20 bison photo: Holy crap that’s strange

Wow, this is like a weird combination of two parts of American history: The interstate highway system and the buffalo. We blame Ted Turner for this. source

Offbeat: The other side of the Epic Beard Man bus-fighting story

  • Let not the Epic Beard Man get all the praise for this video. This video of two dudes getting into a huge fight on an Oakland, Calf. bus shot through the internet like a pair of brass knuckles over the weekend. Here’s the other side of the argument, told by comparing each side to the video itself. Michael’s nose appears to be healing nicely. Key point of the clip: Michael knew the racist overtones of what Thomas Bruso said. Also, he’s 50 – he looks way younger. source

Offbeat: We’re breaking our AP boycott because this story is just too weird

  • Weird: Woman decides to get head cyrogenically frozen. Normal: The woman changes her mind and wants her body kept intact. Super-strange: The company in charge of doing it is putting up a huge legal fight to keep her head for some stupid reason. Alcor, BTW, is the company that played baseball with Ted Williams’ body parts.
