Culture: Jim Carrey: Major Tiger Woods fan, apparently

  • No wife is blind enough to miss that much infidelity. Elin had 2 b a willing participant on the ride 4 whatever reason
  • Jim Carrey • In a series of tweets about Tiger Woods and his wife, Elin. In another, he gave a big-up to the dude: “Tiger Woods owes nothing 2 anyone but himself. 2 please his father he gave up his childhood and his freedom in the world. That’s enough!” The funnyman, who just broke up with Jenny McCarthy on Twitter, is certainly making himself sound like a major class act in these posts, isn’t he. source

Culture: Good way to wake up: Watch as Texas Stadium implodes

  • The Dallas Cowboys left this stadium a couple of years ago, but this iconic piece of football history will be missed. That said, it’s pretty awesome to see it torn down in a matter of seconds. Our society will not be judged on how quickly it builds something, but how quickly it tears that something down. So, we’re doing pretty good. source

Culture: This just in: Tiger Woods thinks Tiger Woods sucks

  • We’ve been avoiding Tiger as much as humanly possible this week because we’re sick of talking about him, but this clip above is a good reason to acknowledge his existence. Keep that rage in check, bro. The whole world is watching.

Culture: We hope it’s a rumor: Robert Pattinson as Kurt Cobain?

  • David Fincher would direct, so at least that’s good. Take this with a grain of salt, but scummy British tabloid The Sun is reporting (and it’s being repeated elsewhere) that a new Nirvana movie is being made, starring “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson as the alternative rock icon, and Scarlett Johansson as Courtney Love. The Nirvana story is one we’d rather not see a studio screw up, so let’s hope The Sun lives up to its rep in this case. source

Culture: This clip is freaking awesome. Give it a chance to kick in

  • It doesn’t look like much at first, but by the end, it’s like friggin’ whoa. Just sayin’.

Culture: Justin “Mac” Long: Apple could be ready to quit “I’m a Mac”

  • You know, I think they might be done. In fact, I heard from John, I think they’re going to move on. I can’t say definitively, which is sad, because not only am I going to miss doing them, but also working with John.
  • Justin “I’m a Mac” Long • In an interview with The Onion A.V. Club, where he notes the popular Mac vs. PC ads he does with John Hodgman might be kaput. This would be really sad, because the ads are some of the industry’s best and most consistently clever. The rest of the article is fairly compelling beyond that bombshell, including Long discussing his various voice-acting roles. Apparently he knows how to do a ’90s stoner voice really well. source

Culture: Avant-garde film or Nike commercial? Tiger Woods ad a bit odd

  • If you can’t get rid of him, might as well traumatize him. Woods, who lost his beloved father a couple of years ago, gets to hear his voice asking the kind of questions one in Woods’ situation might not want to hear. It’s a vaguely brilliant move on Nike’s part, but on Tiger’s, it doesn’t really help him.

Biz, Culture: NBC is trying to subliminally convince you to recycle

  • In this case it fell right into the realm of what we do. We’d have to say no if it hurt the integrity of the show.
  • “The Office” executive producer Paul “Toby the HR guy” Lieberstein • Discussing his network’s push to get his show (and every other on their many networks) to produce one environmentally-themed episode each year. (In the case of “The Office,” Dwight dressed up as a superhero obsessed with recycling.) It’s called “behavior placement,” and like product placement, the goal is to get you to buy stuff. The journalism world has something like this – if a newspaper publishes a weekly section about cars, it’s because they want to sell car ads. But the way NBC handles it is way beyond what most networks do. It’s this sort of innovative thinking that got Jay Leno on the air at 10 p.m. Remember that. source

Culture: “Dr. Horrible,” 8-bit style: A “Maniac Mansion” for modern nerds

  • Whoever the genius is that created this needs to be given like a million dollars by Joss Whedon or something so he can sell this game. This is a brilliant idea. And hilarious.
