Tech: Digg might be about to do newspapers a huge favor

  • So what’s in it for Digg? While the company might sacrifice some page views, it could get an even better sense of the content being blasted around the Web.
  • Forbes Senior Editor Brian Caulfield • On Digg’s new API, which is designed to make it stupidly easy to Digg posts all over the Webb. (Whoops, sorry, we put that extra “b” on “Web” by accident.) Caulfield argues that the site is attempting at a decentralized approach much like Twitter with the move – a move that could help journalism significantly. source

U.S.: Ben just got Bernanke’d by Bernie Sanders. Ouch.

  • bernanke1202
  • Yeah … Our boy’s gonna have trouble getting a second term. Ben Bernanke’s first term as Federal Reserve chair was marked by a whole bunch of crazy bank failures, financial market distress, bailouts, and pissed-off tea partiers who probably want to hurt him. On the eve of a second confirmation hearing, one independent senator has said “enough.” Bernie Sanders plans to put a hold on Bernanke’s nomination, which means he might be able to filibuster easily. He’s pretty much screwed. source

U.S.: In San Francisco, unleashed dogs attack rich old ladies. Yikes.

  • In the past few years the park has become a nightmare of unleashed dogs. What is it going to take to enforce the leash law and control access? A death of a child? A badly injured adult? I am a seriously injured adult…
  • 73-year-old San Francisco widow Marion Cope • Who was mauled by a pack of unleashed dogs who were attacking the dog she was walking. A dog bit her calf, leaving a 10-inch wound which will require plastic surgery to repair. The irony? Her family, which also owned a swanky hotel in the city, gave the park to San Francisco nearly 100 years ago. That bites. source

Culture: Break.com pushes the Tiger Woods story to a disgusting new level

tigergame1202

  • Is the Tiger Woods coverage not tasteless enough for you yet? Play the game. It’s probably enough to push those barriers of taste over the edge. See Tiger? If you had come clean four days ago, you wouldn’t be the subject of (pardon our french) shit like this. source

U.S.: The Moonies fire the non-crazy part of the Washington Times staff

  • Our circulation sucks. Let’s kill the paper! In a hack and slash maneuver with negative ramifications for tons of journalists, the Times has announced layoffs of 40% of their staff. They also plan to trim the paper back significantly and focus on the right-leaning chatter that has earned the paper a circulation that’s only a fraction of the size of The Washington Post. Is less sports and more crazy the answer? We’ll find out. source

Culture: Tiger Woods finally breaks down, admits to affairs

  • I have let my family down and I regret those transgressions with all of my heart. I have not been true to my values and the behavior my family deserves.
  • Tiger Woods • Admitting to transgressions and affairs with other women. He should’ve said something on Saturday. Now it’s just a mess and he can’t do anything to fix it. We feel bad for him, but … dude, your PR sucks as much as your golf game rules. source
