Tech: Yo, back off bosses! Surfing Facebook is really productive!

  • In fact, it’s 9% moreso than not, says a new study. A new study that compares workers who use the Internet for personal reasons and those that don’t finds that those surfing MySpace, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and other sites unrelated to the job are actually more productive. We’re so gonna test this today. source

Culture: Sounds like this woman has a crisis of faith

  • Had anyone told me in February 2006 that I would be a Muslim before April rolled around, I would have shaken my head in concern for the person’s mental health.
  • Ann Holmes Redding • A former Episcopal minister who converted to Islam three years ago and straddled the line between both before the Episcopal Church defrocked her. Seriously, why you makin’ her decide? She clearly doesn’t want to. • source

Biz, Politics: Editorial: Carmakers could have pulled the electric trigger long ago

  • In Michigan, we are doing everything we can to become the home of this new electric auto industry – and to the jobs this industry will create.
  • Gov. Jennifer Granholm • On the rebuilding of the industry that’s the cornerstone of that state. GM had a chance to do the electric car right and a captive audience, and they limited its appeal and let it die. It seems like a sad commentary on our country’s priorities that it takes near-bankruptcy to convince the auto industry to properly give electric cars an actual shot. • source

Sports: Jay Cutler says the Broncos never actually reached him

  • A simple, terse, “no” text message says it all. Cutler, who wanted a trade, and is now getting one apparently, did not get contacted repeatedly like the Broncos made it seem earlier today. Cutler’s agent, Bus Cook, in fact noted that they had only tried to contact him (not Jay, who noted the lack of contact via text message) on Tuesday, and the trade news was a bit of a shock. “I heard from Jay when he called to tell me he just saw on TV he was being traded,” Cook said. “They can spin it the way they want to spin it.” Draaaaaaaaama. source
