Biz: Idiots at the Upland, Calif. Wal-Mart: Way to be bad shoppers/human beings

  • This was without a doubt the worst I’ve ever seen it. They wouldn’t let people line up. They were belligerent. They just bombarded the store.
  • A Upland, Calif. Wal-Mart employee • Describing the scene at the store. The employee has been around the block, working a dozen Black Fridays. They had to close the store for three hours this morning because people were ripping up merchandise, fighting and generally being crazy. You know, there are better ways to get deals than this. source

Biz: Wal-Mart’s supplier credit-rating program genius, say smart people

  • I would expect a retailer’s credit quality always to be taken into account when a firm is lending money against that retailer’s receivables. If a vendor is owed the money by Wal-Mart that is very different than if a vendor is owed the money by [bankrupt] Linens N Things, for example.
  • GimmeCredit analyst Carol Levenson • Describing how Wal-Mart’s new policy, which allows suppliers to get credit on the back of the company’s very strong credit rating, is genius. Obviously, not every supplier can count on retailers to bail them out like this. But many are in a position to do the same thing, including Target, Kohl’s, TJX Cos. (the parent of TJMaxx, Marshall’s and other similar stores), Home Depot, Lowe’s and Walgreens. Considering that suppliers are likely in the tank in this economy, this could save them. • source

Politics: Glenn Beck’s political ramblings: Not even Wal-Mart likes them

  • Wal-Mart, CVS, Best Buy and many more aren’t advertising with Beck. The Fox News host has a pretty serious issues with advertisers at the moment, weeks after calling Barack Obama a “racist” on his show, causing ColorOfChange.org to start a campaign against him. The list of advertisers is shrinking fast. No word on what the Sham-Wow guy plans to do yet. source

U.S.: Excessive police force on YouTube, example No. 2,307,539

  • Police brutality is easier to track thanks to YouTube. In this video, a police officer at a Wal-Mart slammed an elderly woman to the ground. Which seems a wee bet excessive, due to the fact that, well, it’s an old woman. She was carrying a knife, yes, but this doesn’t seem to be the best way to handle something like this. source
