Bro made his debut as a Philadelphia Eagle last night. Since he won’t play for reals until around week six, it actually made for a good preseason game.

We know, we know. We can't stand Brett Favre's return to the Minnesota Vikings, either. Which is why seeing columnists and bloggers freaking out about it totally amuses us. Here's a sampling.
S.F. Chronicle Gwen Knapp puts it best: “Favre’s fickle approach to retirement is an embarrassment that should follow him forever.”
Washington PostWe agree: “I know they’ll never say it on the record so I’ll say it for Tarvaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels: Brett Favre is a jackass.”
Jay MariottiBrett made his bed: “All right, Brett Favre. All right, you maddening flip-flopper and hopeless egomaniac. You asked for it.”
Now Web-focused, with a quarterly magazine. Yesterday, Uptown Media announced that they had agreed to take on both iconic hip-hop rag Vibe Magazine and its Web site. First on the agenda? Site redesign! By the end of the year, they hope to have another print product on the shelves, this time a quarterly publication with a smaller circulation. Vibe stopped printing after a 40% decline in ads bled them dry earlier this year. source
It was the hardest decision I’ve ever made. I didn’t feel like physically I could play at a level that was acceptable. I would like to thank everyone, including the Packers, Jets and Vikings – but, most importantly, the fans.
Quarterback Brett Favre • Describing his decision to stay retired as opposed to trying to play for the Minnesota Vikings. Favre is kind of an old guy and has already retired twice, only to return once and nearly return a second time. Regarding the surgery that he went through in hopes of coming back, he says he realized it was time. “I have legitimate reasons for my decision,” he said. “I’m 39 with a lot of sacks to my name.” • source
The Michael Vick situation, I think, is unfortunate. I think the way the commissioner is handling it is unfair to Michael Vick. I think he’s done the time for what he’s done. I don’t think it’s really fair for him to be suspended four more games. It’s almost like kicking a dead horse in the ground.
Brash NFL icon Terrell Owens • Sounding pretty intelligent in arguing against a further suspension for Michael Vick, who went to jail for his ties to a dog-fighting operation. Owens, currently a Buffalo Bill, feels that the players’ union needs to step in and give Vick their support as he tries to return to the NFL and put the situation behind him. • source
Weeks after being booted in a coup, Jose Manuel Zelaya returned to Honduras for 15 solid minutes, making a volatile situation even worse and being a bit cavalier. Fortunately, as he was crossing, he happened to have some cameras around him.

A conditional return is in the works, guys. Vick, suspended and sent to jail after the “Bad Newz Kennels” dog-fighting saga – a saga which managed to tick off PETA, anger animal-rights activists and somehow make Michael look worse than his troubled brother Marcus – reportedly talked to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell today. Early word is that he’ll be allowed to practice with a team this season and will be given a four-game suspension. But he’ll be let back into the league. We’re guessing one of the conditions is no more bad newz. source
