  • This is analysis? Of who? Tonight’s debut of Sarah Palin as a Fox News commentator was a fail as a piece of commentary because the focus never really left the topic of Sarah Palin. We understand why Palin might want to use this opportunity to clear her throat, but if she really wants to be worthy of our time, she can’t spend fifteen minutes talking about herself. Who cares?

  • This clip somehow got funnier a year and a couple months later, especially in the context of the line from Tina Fey’s version of Sarah Palin: “If I’m not going to the White House I’m either running in four years or I’m going to be a white Oprah.” In the context of the Palin/Fox News announcement today, it’s even more striking. source

  • I guarantee you that the average person, white or black, right now is less concerned about what Harry Reid said in a quote in a book a couple of years ago than how we are going to move the country forward.
  • President Barack Obama • Going up to bat, again, for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. It seems like this controversy has gotten a bit out of control this week, with everyone going all willy-nilly about what Reid said. Know why? Simple – lots of people think they can weaken the Democrats by attacking Reid for something he said a couple of years ago that was quoted in a book. Obama’s absolutely right. Let it die, echo chamber. It’s not worth the hours of arguing over on CNN and Fox News. source

Politics: Dear Tucker Carlson: Three points on The Daily Caller

  • Today’s a big day for ideological parity. Five years after Arianna Huffington launched “The Huffington Post,” Tucker Carlson‘s got his own toy, “The Daily Caller.” And we want to see it succeed, because we like Tucker (even when we dispute his politics). That said, bro, we have a few thoughts for you as you go forward. Let us know what you think.
  • The design = meh We think that The Daily Caller has a lot of potential, but the font usage – Arial for the logo and typography, and the usage of Hobo here – leaves a lot to be desired. HuffPo’s design isn’t great either, but at least her serifs don’t anger the natives.
  • We like S.E. Cupp In terms of conservative columnists, we’d pick Cupp any day of the week over Ann Coulter. More acerbic, but in the right ways. More fun, too. We’ll probably disagree with her, too, but she doesn’t make us want to destroy things like Coulter.
  • Ideological smarts OK, we don’t buy the whole “conservative response to HuffPo” thing, but we do like the fact that you clearly aren’t afraid to show your biases. We need our journalism to be ideologically honest. Even if it’s not perfect, it’s definitely a good start.

Politics: Max Headroom: Ahnold still feels aftershocks from “True Lies”


  • RNC VS. DNC: RAWR On “Fox News Sunday,” pretty much the only news show worth watching nowadays if you’re being sarcastic, DNC chair Tim Kaine and RNC chair Michael Steele took on the Harry Reid thing. And they both answered as you’d expect, really. Michael Steele comes off as a douche.

  • Painting: terminated When California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger speaks, paintings fall down. Was it perhaps a result of the aftershock of speaking to the effervescent David Gregory, or maybe the Eureka quake last night? Either way, we’re freaking amused, just like David Gregory.

  • Bad point, bob A week ago, we were giving CBS’ “Face the Nation” host Bob Schieffer credit for making a pretty spot-on point about the political echo chamber. How does he follow up? Well, by talking about what we could learn from dogs. Uh, WHAT?@! This is an e-mail chain letter.

  • She still didn’t really understand why there was a North Korea and a South Korea. She was still regularly saying that Saddam Hussein had been behind 9/11.
  • John McCain’s 2008 campaign strategist, Steve Schmidt • Regarding Sarah “Going Rogue” Palin’s faults as a vice presidential candidate – and as a human being, really. Schmidt went further, saying she was woefully misinformed about policy issues and overly concerned about her political standing in Alaska on the day she had a key interview with Katie Couric. Despite this, Schmidt admits that if she wasn’t on the ticket, the campaign would’ve faltered even worse than it did. source
