Politics: Obama: Don’t dogpile on my boy Harry Reid. He’s a good guy.

  • Harry Reid called me today and apologized for an unfortunate comment reported today. I accepted Harry’s apology without question because I’ve known him for years, I’ve seen the passionate leadership he’s shown on issues of social justice and I know what’s in his heart.  As far as I am concerned, the book is closed.
  • President Barack Obama • Regarding the controversy around Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid reportedly saying something racist about him. Obama forgave quickly, but Fox News is portraying it as an orchestrated campaign to downplay the comments’ impact. And RNC chairman Michael Steele, our generation’s Carlton from “Fresh Prince of Bel Air”, says Reid should resign. Should he? source

U.S., World: The Underwear Bomber aided by his complicated name

  • The State Department had it misspelled. Oops. There were a lot of unconnected dots in the Detroit terror bombing, but one of the most egregious – in our opinion – was the fact that the State Department didn’t know Umar Farouk AbdulMutallab had a visa after doing a background check on the guy because his name was misspelled. We’re not geniuses here, but Islamic names tend to be somewhat hard to spell, so it would make sense that one plans for that. Instead, he almost blew up a plane. source

Politics: “The Daily Show” looks for the “Good Old Days,” can’t find it

  • Are the “Good Old Days” gone? In response to Fox News talking heads going on about how we’ve lost our innocence, “The Daily Show’s” John Oliver tried looking for said innocence, and wasn’t able to find it. Decade by decade, he found that it was just as bad. Freaking hilarious. Depressing. And awesome. All at once, guys.

  • His drop-out completely fragments the race. Colorado’s first-term governor, who won on the strength of his own party and the fragmentation of the other guys in 2006, found himself in a different situation in 2010. Among other things, his decisions sometimes ran counter to his party’s, especially the appointment of Michael Bennet to the Senate.
