World: Gordon Brown: Not a well-liked man in the U.K. right now

  • There was certainly some consideration by several of Brown’s ministers yesterday over whether or not to back him. In the end, none of them wanted to wield the knife. But yes, of course, this is further damaging to Gordon Brown.
  • University of Liverpool political department head Jonathan Tonge • Regarding the fate of British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who barely survived a revolt by his own party this week. Some of his own staff barely even gave him any love. The ultra-unpopular Labor Party member fended off a couple of senior party members asking for a vote to get him out of office, and likely faces a worse fate from the British public in June elections. Remember how the last guy, Tony Blair, also left in a firestorm of controversy from his own Labor Party? Yeah. Just sayin’. Seems like a trend at this point. source

World: Doctor to Lockerbie bombing judge: You done @!#(^!( up, idiot

  • It is clear to me from the medical reports and the opinion of the specialists that Megrahi could live for many more months. Kenny MacAskill released him apparently on the advice of just one doctor whose status is not clear and who is not named.
  • Scottish Labour Party politician Dr. Richard Simpson • Discussing the prognosis of Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi, which Scottish justice minister Kenny MacAskill believed would only give the Lockerbie bomber a short time to live. Simpson suggests that MacAskill’s information was incorrect. If Simpson is right, then the Libyan government just scored a huge coup. • source

World: Gordon Brown’s Labour Party support just dipped in the negative

  • Can we get unity under the current leadership? I am not sure that we can and I think we need to debate it urgently and I think probably it will need a change in leader.
  • Charles Falconer • A former senior Labour Party official, on the uphill battle Prime Minister Gordon Brown faces in the U.K. Election results for the European Parliament are expected to be brutal today for the ruling party, caught up in scandal and facing criticism about a lack of a coherent policy agenda. And Brown, the guy on top, has felt it the worst, losing half a dozen cabinet members this week alone. • source

World: British prime minister Gordon Brown has like zero support

  • I now believe your continued leadership makes a Conservative victory more, not less likely. That would be disastrous for our country.
  • Work and Sensions Secretary James Purnell • Who, in a very harshly-written letter to the media, asked Gordon Brown to resign. If it were just Purnell doing this, it’d be a big deal, but he’s only the fifth Labour Party member to resign from Brown’s government this week. WTF dude? Can’t you keep it together? Need a hug or something? Labour Party support is at historic lows, BTW. • source

  • Gerald Kaufman • a U.K. politician (Labour party) whose family suffered under the fate of the Nazi regime. Kaufman, an Orthodox Jew, claims that Israeli soldiers in Gaza are acting similarly to German soldiers during World War II. • source
