Politics: Max Headroom: John McCain lets Sarah Palin know where she stands


  • Is this a compliment?     On “Meet The Press” this week, John McCain said that he was proud of his former Veep candidate, Sarah Palin, and said that even though she’s “irrelevant,” people continue to attack her. Sounds backhanded.

  • Mitt Romney’s stance     You know this guy’s gonna make another run for office. The GOP’s best resource on government health care leans largely on fiscal concerns in this clip with our boy John King. Whether or not you agree, he sounds on the ball.


  • I don’t vote     Gen. David Petraeus has a pretty interesting wrinkle to carry around: He doesn’t vote, and hasn’t since he was promoted to Maj. General in 2002. Fox News’ Chris Wallace, amusingly, seems taken aback by this fact.

  • A spirited defense Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has her work cut out for her in defending having the 9/11 terror trial in NYC. For the most part, her points make sense, even if they annoy Rudy Giuliani.

  • Gitmo like Disneyland?Michigan Rep. Pete Hoekstra perhaps misspoke when he referred to Guantanamo Bay as “a great place.” Hear that? It’s an instant soundbite for his Democratic challenger in 2010!

  • Get yo popcorn ready!Tomorrow promises to be some awesome TV for red-meat-eating conservatives, as Lou Dobbs brings the anti-immigration train (choo choo) to “The O’Reilly Factor.” Here’s the ad.

Politics: Max headroom: SNL parodies Fox News, Lindsey Graham goes DOA

  • Health care DOA? On “Face the Nation” today, Sen. Lindsey Graham trashed the health care bill like he was throwing it in a compactor and then burning it. Pulling no punches, he said it was DOA and had no chance of passing in the Senate. Harsh words.

  • His district’s needsJoseph Cao’s biggest sticking point was abortion; with that decided, he made a “decision of conscience” based on his low-income district’s needs. Cao’s district covers areas of New Orleans heavily damaged by Hurricane Katrina.

  • Fox News farceLast night, “Saturday Night Live” had one of the best Fox News parodies we’ve seen. Best quote comes from “Karl Rove”: “Let’s not forget that it was under HIS watch that we lost the King of Pop.” And “Glenn Beck” is pretty dead-on too.

Politics: Max Headroom: Tongues still wagging over Fox News

  • Blaming Glenn Beck Former Fox News pundit Jane Hall, now a professor at American University, claims that the lessening debate on Fox News convinced her to leave. Oh, and also Glenn Beck, who she says is “way over-the-top” in his rhetoric.

  • Gangsta gangsta“You gotta love Sean Connery in that!” We can all agree that the clip Fox News played was pretty funny, but we don’t agree with the way that they’re trying to paint the White House like a group of Al Capones. Seems unbecoming of Fox.

  • Is it punishment?On “Meet the Press,” Democratic Sen. Charles Schumer goes on for a bit about how the executive pay cuts aren’t punishing corporate execs. Immediately afterwards, Republican Sen. John Cornyn calls the cuts “punishment.”

  • “Chicago-style”? On Fox News, Bush-era White House strategist Karl Rove suggests that the Obama administration is carrying around an enemies list and is full of Chicago-style politicians. Is that kinda like Chicago-style pizza, Karl? That sounds tasty.

  • Axelrod’s grinding axWhite House strategist David Axelrod continues Anita Dunn’s strategy of trashing on the news value of Fox News. We think that this strategy has a lot of holes in it. And it’s making Rupert Murdoch more money.

  • Insuring criticismRepublican senator John Kyl may regret saying this. When tackling the Afghan war versus the cost of health care on “Meet the Press,” he says that the uninsured won’t die from the lack of insurance. Yeah man, whatever.

Politics: Max Headroom: Al Gore stutters, Keith Olbermann doesn’t

  • Inconvenient for Al Phelim McAleer, co-director of “Not Evil Just Wrong,” a right-leaning film refuting Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth,” happened to be at Gore’s first Q&A in four years, Gore stumbled through McAleer’s question. Then McAleer’s mic was cut. Hm.

  • Fox & the GOP in bed?White House Communications Director Anita Dunn made a harsh-tongued accusation against Fox News this morning, calling them the “communications arm of the Republican Party” and saying Obama treats talking to them like a debate.

  • It’s about … deathLast week, Keith Olbermann devoted a show to the health care debate. He prefaced it by saying that the debate was “about … death.” And he goes on, and on, and on. And a lot of it is pretty good and substantial. (Watch the whole thing here.)

  • ACORN scam artists? The two people behind the ACORN prostitution video make themselves sound like the biggest douchebags ever, based on this Fox News video. Even if ACORN screwed up, these guys were TRYING to get them to screw up.

  • Tea party insanityNow, we’re not saying that all conservative activists are like those shown in this video, but the first two minutes of this video are really eye opening as to how far on the fringe many of these activists really are. Yikes.

  • Axelrod: They’re wrongTop Obama adviser David Axelrod says flatly that these conservative activists overtaking Washington are simply “wrong” on the health care debate. We wouldn’t go that far. Their voices should be a part of this debate, too.

  • Newt’s got Obama’s backNewt Gingrich isn’t lining up with fellow Republicans to criticize Obama’s controversial upcoming speech to students. He greatly supports what he expects to be purely “positive.”

  • Lieberman smacks back A while back, Alec Baldwin threatened to move to Connecticut to essentially run against Democrat-turned-indie politician Joe Lieberman. Lieberman’s response: “Make my day.” It’s on now.

  • Wrong place, wrong storyFox News gets this great idea: Let’s take Geraldo Rivera and put him near Hurricane Bill … so that he can discuss Obama’s declining poll numbers. Shouldn’t you be discussing the storm?

  • McCain misses Ted. Bad.It doesn’t matter that they’re in opposite parties: John McCain laments the declining health of Ted Kennedy and the fact that it’s kept him out of the health care debate. It’s tearjerking.
