  • Andrew Breitbart • Explaining why his decision to pass on the latest James O’Keefe saga, involving a soon-to-be-departing NPR exec, isn’t an attempt to distance himself from the gotcha video specialist. “I’ve said all along that James needs to be an independent journalist,” he said. “His ACORN videos weren’t posted exclusively on Breitbart sites.” Breitbart famously criticized his protegé after he attempted to do some sketchy stuff involving CNN reporter Abbie Boudreau. But for what it’s worth, Breitbart appears to be pretty happy with O’Keefe’s latest story, even if he wasn’t the guy who brought it to the world. source

Politics: James O’Keefe tries to punk CNN reporter, fails miserably

  • I never intended to become part of the story. But things suddenly took a very strange turn.
  • CNN correspondent Abbie Boudreau • On nearly getting punked by @(&#(&!) (@&!(!( James O’Keefe. O’Keefe apparently wanted to meet the reporter, alone, and pretend to hit on her in an overtly sexual way in a room complete with props (“condom jar, dildos, posters and paintings of naked women, fuzzy handcuffs”), then tape the whole thing for a hit piece. Boudreau was doing a piece on O’Keefe and other conservative activists, by the way. Is it us, or did this guy get lucky once (with completely inaccurate information) and is now just a piece of scum on the American culture? Seriously, James. Go away. source

Politics: The New York Times admits to getting the ACORN facts wrong

  • Public editor Clark Hoyt set the record straight. With ACORN’s pending closure taking over the news today, it’s perhaps a sad footnote to the scandal that The New York Times admits to misrepresenting the case. Among other things, Hoyt says (and BigGovernment.com founder Andrew Breitbart agrees that) James O’Keefe never dressed as a pimp during his visits to ACORN – just at the beginning and end of videos when he wasn’t actually in their offices. The damage is done, though. ACORN is now dead. (ACORN housing, however, lives on under a different name.) source

Politics: James O’Keefe: Pssh! We weren’t wiretapping that office!

  • On reflection, I could have used a different approach to this investigation, particularly given the sensitivities that people understandably have about security in a federal building.
  • “Gonzo” conservative journalist James O’Keefe • Regarding that whole arrest thing that happened earlier this week. His claim? “The government has now confirmed what has always been clear: No one tried to wiretap or bug Senator Landrieu’s office.” Who said this? Who? Anyway, O’Keefe and his three cohorts could face up to ten years in prison for maliciously interfering with a telephone system operated and controlled by the U.S. government. They claim they were just trying to shoot funny, embarrassing videos. Sure. source

U.S.: ACORN pest James O’Keefe flies too close to the sun, gets burned

  • He can now be mentioned in the same sentence as Watergate! James O’Keefe, the conservative activist previously best-known for destroying ACORN’s dignity (and working for BigGovernment.com), was arrested for trying to break into Sen. Mary Landrieu’s New Orleans office, along with three others. They were pretending to work with the phone company, which is some serious LOLz and a lot less creative than the pimp/ho getup they used with ACORN. A lot of people have felt schadenfreude in reaction to all this, not the least of which ACORN itself. We just think it’s proof that Tom Green-style tactics like this don’t work in politics. source

Politics: ACORN finally gets some good news from the courts

  • They have been singled out by Congress for punishment that directly and immediately affects their ability to continue to obtain federal funding, in the absence of any judicial, or even administrative, process adjudicating guilt.
  • Judge Nina Gershon • On her decision to overturn the House ban on grants for ACORN, which was ruled unconstitutional yesterday. Gershon and others argue that the bill equated to a “bill of attainder,” which punishes a group without the benefit of a trial. Conservative groups perhaps played their hand a little too loosely on this case. Even though ACORN screwed up, they didn’t commit any crimes other than large amounts of idiocy. So this decision was the right one. source

Politics: Why Andrew Breitbart has too much influence right now

  • On Andrew Breitbart’s video site Breitbart.TV, they recently made the claim that this video showed the people were praying to Obama for health care. It’s a faux-event put together by the Gamaliel Foundation, a nonprofit group of community organizers, but they’re clearly saying “Oh God.” Breitbart, whose influence also brought Van Jones and ACORN to its knees, also brought this video to the forefront. This guy’s feeding the vitriolic parts of the health care debate right now, and he’s not even giving good information! This is a problem. source
