Sports: Pacman Jones may get another Power Pellet from the Cowboys

  • Sure, he’s controversial, but they might give him another shot. In an interview Saturday night, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones asked a reporter, “Would you beat me up too bad if I brought back Adam?” Adam Pacman Jones, who was released in February, is infamous bordering on unusable for his off-the-field behavior. However, despite a six-game suspension last season, the Cowboys owner still might give him another shot, though he says it’s a long shot. Make up your mind, man. source

Sports: Uh, OK: Some guy tried to put a hat on Roger Federer’s head

The reason why this is notable, of course, is that Federer was playing in the final of the French Open at the time. source

Culture, Sports: Hilarious “Leroy Smith” ads: Charlie Murphy working again

leroysmith0606
  • You have to dig deep in the source code of getyourbasketballon.com to find out who made this spot-on parody of “Archrivals”-era hoops (we’ll let you do that), but let’s just say Charlie Murphy hasn’t been this funny since his “Chapelle Show” days. Maybe longer.source

Sports: LeBron fined $25 G’s. Guess he’s not getting the gold-plated iPhone.

  • He asked that I express to the media, the Magic and the fans his apology, and particularly the young fans, because he knows he has a responsibility to all of our fans, and that sportsmanship is appropriate whether you win or whether you lose.
  • NBA Commissioner David Stern • On LeBron James’ $25,000 fine for not shaking hands or talking to the media after the Cleveland Cavaliers lost to the Orlando Magic in the NBA playoffs. It’s his first incident, ever. We blame ourselves for his misconduct. We set the example. Give us the fine, David! WE’RE SORRY!!!!!! • source

Sports: The Atlanta Braves decide fresh blood tops living legend

  • Tom Glavine, one of the biggest stars in Atlanta Braves’ history, a guy who wanted to retire a Brave, was released by the team where he had his biggest success, including two Cy Young awards.
  • But that’s OK, because the Braves also traded for relatively fresh hotness in the form of Pittsburgh Pirates all-star outfielder Nate McLouth. But he won’t win any Cy Youngs. (He’s not a pitcher.)

Sports: The NBA would like to have a word with LeBron James

  • Everything’s big when you follow the NBA, so I’m going to step back and ask not to be pushed too hard right now [on the incident]. I’ve got a few irons in the fire.
  • NBA Commissioner David Stern • On the “Handshakegate” drama facing LeBron James after he failed to shake hands or talk to the media after Cleveland’s playoff-series-losing loss to the Orlando Magic the other night. Despite the drama, James, one of the league’s biggest teddy bears, would not be fined. “We haven’t had any issues with him before at all,” said NBA spokesman Tim Frank. • source

Sports: Why we loooooove Charles Barkley, reason No. 353,759

  • While Charles often makes jokes about his producer during our telecasts, he used poor judgment on Saturday during our NBA coverage. His comment was inappropriate and TNT apologizes to our viewers. We have spoken with Charles privately about it and will not have any further comment.
  • TNT • In a statement about their NBA coverage and its greatest asset, Charles Barkley, who, despite the DUI and the golf swing, is pretty much the coolest former NBA star ever. He called his producer a five-letter word that starts with a “p” on air, and he gets a slap on the wrist. That rules. • source

Sports: Tom Brady’s surgeon thinks he’s an amazing in be … er, rehab

  • With regard to his recovery of strength, I’ve never seen anything quite like it. With an average person, it would have taken probably twice as long to get range of motion and strength back.
  • Dr. Neal ElAttrache • On his star surgery subject’s speedy recovery from a catastrophic knee injury last season. Brady, who previously led the New England Patriots to an undefeated regular (but not full) season, had his knee ganked in the first game of last season, and his backup, Matt Cassel, didn’t screw up too bad while papa bear was gone. • source
