Politics: Max Headroom: Tongues still wagging over Fox News

  • Blaming Glenn Beck Former Fox News pundit Jane Hall, now a professor at American University, claims that the lessening debate on Fox News convinced her to leave. Oh, and also Glenn Beck, who she says is “way over-the-top” in his rhetoric.

  • Gangsta gangsta “You gotta love Sean Connery in that!” We can all agree that the clip Fox News played was pretty funny, but we don’t agree with the way that they’re trying to paint the White House like a group of Al Capones. Seems unbecoming of Fox.

  • Is it punishment? On “Meet the Press,” Democratic Sen. Charles Schumer goes on for a bit about how the executive pay cuts aren’t punishing corporate execs. Immediately afterwards, Republican Sen. John Cornyn calls the cuts “punishment.”

Tech: Twitter gets rid of one of its peskiest, most annoying problems

  • If you delete a tweet, people can no longer find it. It was one of Twitter’s greatest, if not most obvious flaws. If you screwed up, thanks to the search results, your screw-up was encased in amber for the rest of eternity, or at least until everyone forgot about it. This created one notable/infamous incident, where ABC’s Terry Moran mentioned that Obama called Kanye West a “jackass,” then deleted the tweet – even though everyone could still see it. Fortunately, Twitter has finally fixed the problem. Despite that, you probably shouldn’t trust Twitter to delete your old tweets for good. source

U.S.: The coolest, most awesome political graphic you’ll see all week

leftvsright1025
  • This is one of thoseincredibly awesome graphics that makes us warm and fuzzy inside. It’s impartial, smart, fun to read, and downright awesome in execution. It’s so awesome that it comes in two versions – the U.S. version (above) and a world version which flips the red and blue, much like the U.S. flips the metric system on its head. Information is Beautiful did a beautiful job on this information breakdown.source

U.S.: Nobody wants to move to Detroit. An auction won’t change that.

9,000 properties in the Detroit area were auctioned off recently. The starting bid was $500. Less than a fifth of them sold. Wow. source

Tech: Daily poll: The link between cancer and cell phone usage

  • Word on the street is that the World Health Organization is about to release a report linking long-term cell phone usage to higher levels of certain kinds of cancer. The study recommends restricting – but not banning – usage for children, and perhaps investing in some sort of hands-free setup. Which leads to the question – would you cut back on heavy cell phone usage if you knew it was cancerous? It seems that, unlike cigarettes, they have an essential use, so we couldn’t seem them going away. But what do you think? Vote above.source

Tech: Meet the world’s most famous Drupal-based site: Whitehouse.Gov

whitehouse1025
  • Well, that certainly helps with open government. The White House uses the same technology that many huge Web sites use (along with our bros at Bluffton Today, where we worked in our formative years). Drupal’s open source. Now, so is Whitehouse.gov. This is cool, kids.source
