Tech, U.S.: Get ready for the Guantanamo video game that will piss you off

  • The British company behind this game claims to have gotten lots of hate mail for this game, where a Guantanamo detainee rebels and starts killing his captors. Noooo, really? We have no clue why “Rendition: Guantanamo” would split public opinion so passionately.source

Tech, World: Just in time for Tiananmen’s 20th anniversary, China blocks stuff

  • Most noticeably, anyone who lives in China and uses Twitter can’t use it right now, as access to the site has been blocked. So is Flickr and Hotmail. Basically, China is closed to Web 2.0. source
  • On top of that, China is blocking foreign news reports about the pro-democracy massacre, which they’ve been very careful to block from the public. They want to stop activists. source

Sports: The NBA would like to have a word with LeBron James

  • Everything’s big when you follow the NBA, so I’m going to step back and ask not to be pushed too hard right now [on the incident]. I’ve got a few irons in the fire.
  • NBA Commissioner David Stern • On the “Handshakegate” drama facing LeBron James after he failed to shake hands or talk to the media after Cleveland’s playoff-series-losing loss to the Orlando Magic the other night. U.S.: Latest reason we’re all gonna die: Nuclear data accidentally leaked

  • *forehead slap* Great job, federal government. The U.S. revealed in a newsletter yesterday that somebody messed up and released a 266-page document LOADED with information about civilian nuclear holdings as well as maps of where we keep all of the fuel for our nuclear weapons. The document was marked “highly confidential,” which sounds scary. Some experts claim the leak isn’t THAT big a deal, but it’s not the first data screwup while Obama’s been in office. source

World: A sad ending to the Air France missing plane saga

  • The last bit of hope that we had no longer exists … Before a lot of us were hoping that the plane could have landed on an island or something like that, but no more.
  • Aldair Gomes • Whose son was on the Air France plane that went missing earlier this week. The Brazilian army found the wreckage earlier today, and later confirmed what was likely but feared: The plane crashed into the middle of the Atlantic Ocean in bad weather, and everyone on board – 228 people – probably died. It’s the worst tragedy in Air France’s 75-year history. • source

Culture: Conservatives don’t realize Cobert is joking. Colbert is thrilled.

  • I’m thrilled by it! From the very beginning, I wanted to jump back and forth over the line of meaning what I say, and the truth of the matter is I’m not on anyone’s side, I’m on my side. The important thing is that the audience laughs.
  • Stephen Colbert • Regarding an Ohio State University poll which found most conservatives thought he was “one of them.” The comical pundit puts in a lot of long hours to bring teh funnay, with both him and his staff of 90 working 12-hour days, which he makes look unbelievably easy. • source
