Tech: A 17-year-old was behind the StalkDaily Twitter hack

  • I did this out of boredom, to be honest. I usually like to find vulnerabilities within websites and try not to cause too much damage, but start a worm or something to give the developers an insight on the problem and while doing so, promoting myself or my website.
  • Mikeyy Mooney • Who claims he basically did it for purposes of self-promotion, shooting himself in his 17-year-old foot. Good job, jerk. We hate you and your cruddy Web site. • source

Biz, Tech: Apple fans, have no fear: Steve Jobs still runs the Apple roost.

  • At least that’s what the Wall Street Journal says. Jobs, who took a medical leave in January (which immediately sent their stock tumbling initially), is apparently still running key parts of the company from home, even if he’s not so heavily focused on the day-to-day operations at the moment. He’s still on target for coming back in June, either way. source

Sports: Coach of basketball team with 100-0 game: It wasn’t our goal

  • To us, it was just another game. I think to mainstream media, everyone looked at it as … a team that just decided to run up a score.
  • Micah Grimes • Former coach of the Dallas, Tx.-based Covenant School girl’s basketball team, discussing at length his team’s 100-0 thrashing of Dallas Academy in January. Dude. Did you not see the freaking score? It wasn’t like you guys tripped into winning. The win set off a national debate about sportsmanlike conduct in high school sports, by the way, and Grimes lost his job in the process. At least someone took something good out of the game. • source

World: Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, on getting attacked

  • I believe the people have seen what happened to me. They have seen that the protesters were trying to hurt me and smash the car.
  • Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva • Who barely made it out of a tense situation alive. Protesters have been calling for a dissolution of the government for days. Despite the scene, Thai troops – who are out and about, with tanks in tow – have not directly taken on the protesters. Abhisit says he will do his best to bring peace to the situation and restore order. • source

World: Sri Lanka calls a temporary halt on its Tamil Tiger conflict

  • The halt will allow civilians to leave the warzone. Sri Lanka, who has been in conflict with the Tamil Tigers longer than M.I.A. has been alive, has been facing increased international scrutiny (and heavy protests from Tamils abroad) for its military push to force the Tigers into defeat, because it’s come at the cost of large civilian casualties. The cease-fire would allow civilians just enough time to escape so they aren’t in the crossfire. source

Culture, Music: Go Karma! Billy Bob Thornton learns not to piss off Canadians

  • All mashed potatoes, no gravy Thornton managed to tick off an entire country of disengaged music fans with an interview last week. Thornton, whose rep as an actor makes his music instantly suspect, got angry with a CBC interviewer after he mentioned Thornton’s acting career. Later in the interview, he said Canadian audiences “just sort of sit there” and compared them to mashed potatoes sans gravy. source

  • Karma’s a strange mistress The comments, particularly the ones about fans, made his Thursday show in Toronto very tense, with audience members loudly booing his band, The Boxmasters. During the set, fans shouted, “Here comes the gravy!” Strangely enough, most of Thornton’s band came down with the flu and couldn’t play the rest of their Canadian dates in Montreal or London, Ont. Hmm. source
