World: “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day!” Tomorrow promises bad things

  • 4/23A misguided artist draws a picture parodying the South Park Mohammed thing and sets 5/20 as a date for everyone to draw Mohammed. It gets attention because she sends it to blogs.
  • 4/24 Afraid of the monster she just created, she disowns the picture she personally sent to the blogs and calls it a joke that got out of hand. It doesn’t matter; the idea has already taken hold.
  • 5/19 Pakistan bans Facebook – the entire site – because of the fan page for this thing which has gotten out of hand in a way only things on the internet can. There are videos, too. source

Offbeat: Man jokingly puts kids on Craiglist; police don’t get the joke

  • Joshua Stagnitto must be regretting his sense of humor. The Brockport, N.Y. resident, 24, put his two children up on Craigslist as a joke. Unfortunately for him, someone who saw the posting called child protective services, which turned the case into something of a criminal nature. He could face a $1,000 fine or a year in jail. This is despite the fact that, well, the kids are staying with their mom and aren’t in any danger of getting taken away. source

We’re also convinced Ben Franklin would find this treatment pretty demeaning, too. This isn’t money. This is an episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, in legal tender form. source

Politics: Daily Show’s war on Fox News takes on issues of logo design

  • Can we stop comparing logos to other logos and trying to draw meaning from the conclusions? Seriously. Next think you know, someone’s gonna start calling us commies because we use a lot of red in our site design.

Tech: FourSquare’s North Pole badge: Nobody cares if you get it

  • We’ve been drifting backwards at a ridiculous pace. At this stage we don’t know if we’re going to be able to get there.
  • 15-year-old son of a rich guy Parker Liautaud • On his attempt to reach the North Pole and check off the FourSquare North Pole badge. Which might be a cool feat, if you actually care about marking something off on a virtual game a bunch of hipsters play. Liautaud is competing against a middle-aged motorcycle company CEO for the kind of vacation only a rich person would think of. source
