Politics: This SNL Sarah Palin sketch is a lot funnier in retrospect, guys

  • This clip somehow got funnier a year and a couple months later, especially in the context of the line from Tina Fey’s version of Sarah Palin: “If I’m not going to the White House I’m either running in four years or I’m going to be a white Oprah.” In the context of the Palin/Fox News announcement today, it’s even more striking. source

Offbeat: Meet the dumbest, time-suckingest machine ever made, guys

  • We admit that this machine would probably keep us busy for a few hours. Totally.

Offbeat: Creepy people, shut-ins impressed by Roxxxy the Sex Robot

We know that girl just barely got her head in there, but if we cut any lower we risked showing Roxxxy the Sex Robot sitting in an unladylike position. Sorry. source

Culture: Charles Barkley as Alicia Keys: An SNL promo better than the show

  • Empire State of Mind, indeed. During last night’s NFL playoff game, a preview for SNL – featuring Charles Barkley as host and Alicia Keys as the musical guest, hit. And oh man, is it something. Barkley, with that drunk driving incident well behind him, did his best Alicia Keys, and wow, was it something. Never do this again, Sir Charles.

Culture: “Jersey Shore” makeover: Michael Cera makes a pretty good guido

  • The Task: Turn Michael Cera – Canada’s greatest nerd export – into a Guido. The solution: Loads of hair gel, lots of bronzing, and the cast of “Jersey Shore.” The result: The greatest thing Michael Cera’s done since “Arrested Development.” Yeah, we called it.

Offbeat: In Vietnam, Google’s there when you need it most

For some reason, you can buy Google-brand toilet paper in Vietnam. The virgin pulp paper does the job better than its competitors because it’s well-engineered. source

Politics: “The Daily Show” looks for the “Good Old Days,” can’t find it

  • Are the “Good Old Days” gone? In response to Fox News talking heads going on about how we’ve lost our innocence, “The Daily Show’s” John Oliver tried looking for said innocence, and wasn’t able to find it. Decade by decade, he found that it was just as bad. Freaking hilarious. Depressing. And awesome. All at once, guys.

U.S.: The saga of “Drunk Bus Driver” leads to jail time. With video!

  • When the students on the bus seem to have more control than the driver, you know you probably shouldn’t be a bus driver. In this tense video, a New York bus driver, Martha Thompson, left students at her mercy, believing she was fine. She blew a .15 on the breathalyzer. She’ll now be spending the next 12 weekends in jail after pleading guilty to 37 child endagerment counts. The video alone is worth the wild ride. source

Around Christmas, both the Quad City Times and The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead ran “Heywood Jablome” attributions. Painful. source

Culture: The Dramatic Chipmunk is much deadlier than he looks

  • Sometimes, it simply takes a new approach to make a meme completely fresh again. Dramatic Chipmunk has been around for a few years, and while it’s completely awesome, it’s also old. This parody clip takes the chipmunk (really a prairie dog) and has it attack the Japanese video crew shooting it, horror-movie-style. This is one of the best parody clips we’ve seen in ages, and we highly recommend you watch.
