U.S.: Suspect arrested in last week’s Denver mall bomb plot

  • Earl Albert Moore arrested: The man, sixty-five years old, is being held as the primary suspect in last week’s frightening attempted pipe-bomb/propane explosion at a Denver area shopping mall. It’s being reported that Moore left federal prison just one week before the alleged plot, and that the FBI now considers any relation between this incident and the 12th anniversary of the Columbine High School shootings “unlikely.” source

U.S.: Dear “misunderstanding bomber”: Next time, use nicotine gum

  • We admit it, we were watching a movie when this happened. It was called “The Foot Fist Way.” It stars Danny McBride as a tae kwon do instructor. It was entertaining, but not nearly as entertaining as this mess of accidental terrorism. Like that movie, this story had an anticlimactic ending. Here’s a timeline:
  • 5:19 Plane leaves Reagan National Airport in D.C. and heads to Denver; happens daily.
  • 8:30 Dude lights a smoke because he can’t wait a #(&(&@ hour for the flight to land.
  • 8:40 Military escorts the flight to Denver because they think he has a friggin’ bomb.
  • 10:07 ABC reports that dude is the second coming of the shoe bomber. Others follow.
  • 11:00 It’s proven he didn’t have a bomb, but instead an insane nicotine habit. source

Tech: Rest in peace, old browser: There’s an IE6 funeral today

  • Get to Denver tonight to pay your last respects. A couple of jokesters have decided to make a point about how much IE6 sucks by holding a funeral for it. The browser, which will soon no longer be supported by the likes of YouTube, is still popular despite having a bad reputation. Blame corporate environments that NEVER upgrade their machines. source

Offbeat: Marijuana cookie tragedy: A pro-pot advocate’s huge mistake

  • This story ends tragically, FYI. 🙁 A week after making pot-laced cookies for her 3-year-old grandson (at which point he had to go to the hospital), Erin Marcove committed suicide. Marcove, 44, was a huge advocate for medical marijuana in the Denver area. She made a cookie for the boy, who has since recovered, using “cannabis butter” – peanut butter mixed with marijuana – as the main ingredient. Awful. And awfully sad. source
