Music: Every time we see Michael Jackson’s kids, it’s a big scene

  • Prince Michael Jackson did a great job of speaking in front of a massive crowd, all the more impressive because we don’t think we’ve ever actually seen the dude. Paris, who you remember from Jackson’s funeral, holds up well. Either way, this moment (where they accept Jackson’s Lifetime Achievement Award) is, again, great television. source

Offbeat: Tattoo mom gets all “Memento” on her kids, does it herself

  • I’m not breaking the skin. It’s going to fade away, it’s like a pen mark.
  • Patty “Jo Jo” Marsh • On tattooing her kids using a homemade device – a pen and a guitar string. After the biological mother of some of the six kids she tattooed complained, Marsh and her husband, Jacob Edward Bartels, couldn’t understand what they did wrong (you know, besides break Georgia law about tattooing children and homemade tattoos). “I love my children, we’d never do anything to harm our kids,” she continued. You know, besides tattoo your kids using a pen and a guitar string. source

Tech: The Mac/PC debate works better when children explain it

  • “We’re different brands of computers.” “And we #)&)@&) hate each other.” Ah, the never-ending Mac/PC debate. Somehow it never gets old, especially in the hands of these 4-year-old Asian girls, who come to blows trying to explain why their computer is better. Hilarious, cute, and a bunch of other amusing things.

World: A bunch of military brats get bored in Japan, hurt someone seriously

  • Hanging this rope up in the middle of a road sounds like a great idea! In Japan, four children of U.S. military were arrested for an August incident where they put a piece of rope on either side of a road, which then caused a major injury to someone on their motorbike. The four, who range in age from 15 to 18, were arrested and charged with attempted murder. source

U.S.: Snooty pool club accused of racism falling victim to bankruptcy

  • While many will point towards our legal situation and negative media exposure this summer as the reason [we’re going bankrupt], the truth is that the club has struggled to stay out of the red for at least the last decade.
  • Valley Club president John Duesler • Attempting to explain that his suburban Philly pool club’s fall into bankruptcy had nothing to do with the barrage of negative press they got for blocking minority children from swimming in their pool. The club is in debt over $100,000 this year alone – mostly from expenses and legal fees. Oh, and a lot of pretty awful press comparing them to Jim Crow probably doesn’t help either. • source

Culture: Grown-up kids of gay parents say they’re normal, well-adjusted

  • You can imagine what my parents thought when I was 13 and listening to Rush Limbaugh everyday. But my family had strong family values. I was raised in a loving, caring household that let me be a free thinker.
  • Republican activist Jesse Levey • Who grew up in a household with two lesbian mothers, but ended up becoming a perfectly normal heterosexual male. Despite his party’s overarching stance, he thinks his parents should be able to marry. Levey, of course, is not alone – lots of children of gay parents grew up to be perfectly normal. By the way, in this article, a guy who admits to having no experience with gay families, Dale O’Leary, is quoted as an expert. He’s shilling his book, “One Man, One Woman: A Catholics Guide to Defending Marriage.” Here’s our question to you: Is this balance, or just a hilariously misguided attempt to get the other side of the argument? • source

Offbeat: Police: Teaching your children to be armed robbers not a good idea

  • All of us should be disgusted by this. This is absolutely not how to raise your children.
  • Phoenix police Sgt. Phil Roberts • On the plight of Cynthia Roberson, who taught her children, ages 12 and 14, all the skills they needed to commit acts of armed robbery – 20 in all. The victims, mostly between the age of 13 and 20, were beaten and assaulted in an attempt to raise money for rent and car insurance. Roberson guilted her sons into it. Jesus. • source
