Offbeat: Hey, look, raw Balloon Boy launch footage. Interesting.

  • Pops has a temper. And man, this non-story has enough entertaining twists and turns that we cannot convince ourselves to turn away. In the latest news of the case, the Heene family was, in fact, working on a TV show about their family, but networks and production companies passed on it. Wouldn’t it be sad/awesome if they got a reality show out of this incident anyway?source

Offbeat: Balloon Boy hugged by his dad: The fakest hug you’ll see all night

  • Look at all the passion Balloon Dad put into that hug, located at 1:24 in this video. It’s like he might have done it for the purpose of a stunt! We’re not geniuses over here, but we’ve seen real hugs before and that is NOT a real hug. Balloon Boy deserves better than that. Because he was stuck in a freaking attic!source

Offbeat: Otto the bus driver is a real guy. Except he’s British. And evil.

  • This massive prick (real name: Kerry Callard) decided it would be hilarious to splash a bunch of kids waiting for the bus to come. This is a total Otto the bus driver move. The only thing he’s missing is a bus. And a conscience. He could get fined for his general prickery.source

Offbeat: The Onion skewers anti-gay Christian conservatives (hilariously)

  • It’s a simple matter of logic, really. God made me who I am, and who I am is a cold, anti-gay zealot. Thus, I abhor gay people because God made me that way. Why is that so hard to understand?
  • Onion columnist Jane Kendricks • Explaining why she hates gay people in an article titled “If God Had Wanted Me To Be Accepting Of Gays, He Would Have Given Me The Warmth And Compassion To Do So.” It’s not her, it’s God. It’s news, it’s The Onion. And “not news” is doing good business right now, based on this article. • source

Offbeat: Cub Scout Zachary Christie not getting zero-toleranced after all

  • Funny what huge amounts of media coverage can do. Tonight, a Delaware school board decided that perhaps the rule that gave Zachary Christie 45 days in an alternative school was a little too hardcore. They changed the punishment for Christie, 6, who brought a Cub Scout multi-function utensil to school, to 3-to-5 days of out-of-school suspension. Which is still too harsh for the crime, especially since the rule change only applies to kindergartners and first-graders. Christie had 150 people in his corner tonight. source

Someone give us $50 so that we can get some ShortFormStrips from The Ethical Butcher. We’re vegetarian, but amused. (Hat tip Good.is.) source

Offbeat: Stabbing suspect: “We’re men – stabby men – we’re men in tights!”

  • His alibi was “Robin Hood: Men in Tights.” No, really. 20-year-old Leo Beitz was accused of stabbing a friend during a visit in Boulder, Colorado. Witnesses to the stabbing say he attacked friend Parker Chase Rolles with a large knife. Beitz says that he accidentally stabbed Rolles when the friends were acting out scenes from “Robin Hood: Men in Tights.” You know, from Mel Brooks’ lean period. We wonder how Richard Lewis has been doing lately. source

Offbeat: Meet the Cub Scout “criminal,” the latest zero-tolerance victim

6-year-old Zachary Christie was a little too resourceful in bringing a combo fork/knife/spoon setup to school. Zero tolerance crashed down on him. source

Offbeat: WhoCanISue.com callously wants you to sue other people

  • It’s definitely meant to be edgy. We wanted to provoke people. Most lawyer advertising is unremarkable and not memorable. I would sit at home and see these ads asking if you’re injured, blah, blah, blah. There was no branding involved. We have a brand.
  • WhoCanISue.com founder Curtis Wolfe • Describing the thought process that went into create his site. Wolfe, formerly in-house counsel at a large Miami firm, has grabbed eyeballs with the site, which connects lawyers with people who want to sue other people. Lawyers aren’t sure what to think. We just hope we’re not answer to that question his site asks. • source
