Culture: In a world of bizarre porn parodies, this TMZ one takes the cake

  • Ron Jeremy as Harvey Levin. No, really. Obviously, we’re a safe for work site and we’re not linking to a porn site, but we’d be terrible at our job if we didn’t inform you of the existence of TMSlease, a parody of TMZ (and celebrity culture in general) which takes a look at gossip culture through porn. Ron Jeremy, by the way, does a great Harvey Levin parody. (The link leads to Gawker, BTW.) source

Culture, Tech: Mac Killer: Ice-T goes gangsta on an old Powerbook

  • Ice-T says it wasn’t personal, nor does he have anything against old Macs. But the screen was busted, so he had to kill it. His tool of choice? A claw hammer. His workbench? A trash can. He’s still reading from the book of Iceberg Slim, we see.source

Culture: So you think you can leave, Paula? Abdul could “Dance”

  • She was like my best buddy on the show. You only realize how much you miss somebody when you’re not there.
  • Simon Cowell • Discussing the departure of his onscreen foil, Paula Abdul, from “American Idol.” Word on the street is that rival show “So You Think You Can Dance” may be interested in what Abdul has to offer. She’s a multihyphenate – “Dance” producer Nigel Lythgoe said no one could match her “experience of being a dancer, of being a choreographer and of being a judge.” Either way, we have to imagine Abdul’s star power isn’t as bright as that of “Idol.” • source

Culture: “American Idol” gets a little posh thanks to Victoria Beckham

  • He is the only man in the music industry who turned down the Spice Girls and said we would never work. I like that fact that he’s honest. I think he’s very funny.
  • Former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham • On working with Simon Cowell on “American Idol.” The former pop star, now better known for being married to the biggest soccer star in the world, will be a guest judge on American Idol next season and was in Denver Friday to watch some auditions. Fake pop star, fake pop star-making show … makes sense. • source

Culture: Autopsy shocker: Billy Mays was on cocaine? Wow.

  • Our evil first thought: “Guess that explains the shouting.” Medical reports on the death of Billy Mays confirm that he used cocaine just days before his death. Mays died from heart disease, but the onset of it was brought in part on by cocaine usage. The family, who did not know of any cocaine usage, dismissed the report and considered having someone independent do the autopsy. Either way, this was a bizarre, unexpected turn of events for the pitchman. source

Culture: “Inglorious Basterds” gives a glorious welcome to Eli Roth’s parents

  • So my parents were there with Hitler singing ‘Happy Birthday,’ watching their son do his Nazi propaganda movie.
  • Director/actor Eli Roth (who is Jewish by the way) • On the surreal experience of convincing his parents to visit Berlin – breaking a vow they made to never visit the city – to see him make “Inglorious Basterds.” Director Quentin Tarantino had his 300 characters, dressed as Nazis, sing for Roth’s parents as if it was their birthday (it wasn’t). This actually amused the heck out of them – they spent the day getting charmed by Tarantino. Man, we need to try harder. • source
