Tech: One of the neckbeards behind Goatse Security speaks up

  • It’s pretty egregious that AT&T would have it for such a device that probably has known exploit candidates (attack code) on, say, the Russian (underground) markets.
  • Escher “Weev” Auernheimer of Goatse Security • Talking about how his group uncovered a major flaw with AT&T’s security mechanism, which led to Gawker posting about the results. Why did they go to Gawker and not AT&T? “We did want not engage directly with AT&T in case they tried to serve us (an injunction) or something,” he said. How did they do it? It was a simple brute-force attack that required no hacking. And people offended about the group’s hilarious name? “If someone is offended to where they can’t deal with us … then they’re a douche bag and we don’t want to be employed by them anyway.” A fun read. source

Biz: “Chevy” goodbye: General Motors wants Chevrolet to break from past

  • Back in the day, Chevy and Chevrolet were one in the same. But that’s going to change soon. General Motors has started asking staffers to refer to Chevrolet by its full name. Why? They want to keep a consistent message. “Why is this consistency so important?,” a memo, released Tuesday, asks. “The more consistent a brand becomes, the more prominent and recognizable it is with the consumer.” But, uh, Chevy is already one of the most recognizable brands in the world. source

Politics: Only notable S.C. Democrat: Alvin Greene is a plant

  • There were some real shenanigans going on in the South Carolina primary. I don’t know if he was a Republican plant; he was someone’s plant.
  • Rep. James Clyburn • On Alvin Greene’s surprise victory in the South Carolina Democratic Senate primary. Clyburn, probably the best-known South Carolina Democrat, seems convinced that someone gave Greene the money for the filing fee. “Somebody gave him that $10,000 and he who took it should be investigated, and he who gave it should be investigated,” Clyburn said. Dude, while you may be right, let’s face it. The reason Greene won is because the other guy was an absolute non-entity too. Even he had only a handful of funds compared to Jim “I’m going to coast to victory” DeMint. source

Politics: Sad state of affairs: The new Oprah is … Glenn freaking BECK?!

  • This book is Amazon’s top seller. It’s not exactly a barn-burner. It’s not new. It’s a tome written against the dangers of socialism in the wake of World War II, which shouldn’t exactly be flying off shelves. But it is. Why? Because Glenn Beck devoted an entire show to it. Which means that – sigh – Glenn Beck singlehandedly has the power to make books popular. Crap. We’re going back to bed. We didn’t wake up for this. source
