Music: John Mayer clarifies thoughts on Twitter, says you should use Tumblr

  • This is where Tumblr comes in. It’s the future of social networking if your image of the future features intelligent discourse. I love reading other Tumblr users replies, because they’re thoughtful by virtue of the fact that if they’re not, they’ll bring the intellectual property value of their own blog down, and that’s a commodity on Tumblr.
  • John Mayer • Discussing why he thinks Twitter is over for him and why Tumblr is where it’s at. Basically, his argument is that Tumblr is a fresh, growing place, whereas Twitter isn’t anymore. He also notes that there’s a heavy stranger factor with Twitter, which makes it a less fun place to be. (Probably because, well, he’s famous.) “Finding out in 140 characters what a stranger has to say about you is like a mathematical equation without an established value of ‘x’,” he writes on his Tumblr. Dude just gave the microblogging site a huge PR boost that they better jump on quick. By the way, our last post about this got Tumbled by a John Mayer-inspired Tumblr account, and we hope two John Mayer-inspired Tumblr accounts do the same with this one. source

Politics: Deal or no deal, 60th vote for Senate financial reform debate in sight

  • If backdoor haggling goes on too long, Sen. George Voinovich will vote yes to get the ball moving. Many GOP senators might be ready to break ranks to make the financial reform bill happen, according to Voinovich. He says he knows how long it should take for a deal to go through, but if one doesn’t, he’ll play vote number 60. By the way, Senators Richard Shelby and Chris Dodd say they’re close to a deal, but Sen. Bob Corker (who knows the score) says they’re not as close as they say. source

Offbeat: ChatRoulette’s second celebrity: Speed illustrator Paz Bernstein?

  • While Merton was getting all of the attention, talented illustrator Paz Bernstein was hopping on ChatRoulette and drawing people live, on the fly, using a Wacom tablet. The fact that these illos are so well-done in such a short amount of time speaks highly of his abilities. And hey, now that Merton’s kinda faded a bit, maybe you can have a chance to shine, Paz. Oh, check out the dude’s portfolio. It’s pretty good and wide-ranging. source

  • Sen. Carl Levin • Talking in very harsh terms to Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein – a hearing put together in the wake of the SEC lawsuit against the company. He and other Goldman staffers looked really uncomfortable with being there, and Levin didn’t help – especially due to all the profanity he was using in criticizing them. He said “)*#(%@” eleven freaking times in a ten-minute period. source

  • Guitar god/Oversharer John Mayer • Regarding his feelings on the service. Dude hasn’t tweeted much lately and is claiming on stage that it’s just not that cool anymore. We wonder why that might be. Is it possibly because of this? Or maybe this (which didn’t start on Twitter but certainly ended there)? Which is why we’re going to quit Twitter. Right now. That’s it. No more Twitter for us. Now, excuse us while we tweet this post. Gah! We already fell off the freaking wagon! source
