John Mayer clarifies thoughts on Twitter, says you should use Tumblr

This is where Tumblr comes in. It’s the future of social networking if your image of the future features intelligent discourse. I love reading other Tumblr users replies, because they’re thoughtful by virtue of the fact that if they’re not, they’ll bring the intellectual property value of their own blog down, and that’s a commodity on Tumblr.
John Mayer • Discussing why he thinks Twitter is over for him and why Tumblr is where it’s at. Basically, his argument is that Tumblr is a fresh, growing place, whereas Twitter isn’t anymore. He also notes that there’s a heavy stranger factor with Twitter, which makes it a less fun place to be. (Probably because, well, he’s famous.) “Finding out in 140 characters what a stranger has to say about you is like a mathematical equation without an established value of ‘x’,” he writes on his Tumblr. Dude just gave the microblogging site a huge PR boost that they better jump on quick. By the way, our last post about this got Tumbled by a John Mayer-inspired Tumblr account, and we hope two John Mayer-inspired Tumblr accounts do the same with this one. source

I just think Twitter as a form of communication, I think it’s over to be honest with you.
Guitar god/Oversharer John Mayer • Regarding his feelings on the service. Dude hasn’t tweeted much lately and is claiming on stage that it’s just not that cool anymore. We wonder why that might be. Is it possibly because of this? Or maybe this (which didn’t start on Twitter but certainly ended there)? Which is why we’re going to quit Twitter. Right now. That’s it. No more Twitter for us. Now, excuse us while we tweet this post. Gah! We already fell off the freaking wagon! source

John Mayer • Regarding his over-the-top interview with Playboy, which was something else. Dude talked about his sex life with Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Simpson, used the N-word (which he claims he tried, and failed, to intellectualize in the interview), and compared his penis to white supremacist David Duke. All in all, holy crap. At least he realizes it was a bad idea and is attempting to make amends for it. source

Someone is all teched out. And who else isn’t? In a year where Facebook Connect became a constant companion because you just couldn’t remember another password to another site, John Mayer’s convinced that society at large needs a digital cleansing. And who’s to say he’s wrong? He has a pretty good point, guys.

The Cleanse John Mayer wants everyone to take a week off of the social Web. “I’ll be defragmenting my mental and psychological hard drive during the first seven days of the new year, and I invite you all to participate.”
the details He wants everyone interested to stop using social networking for one week, to only use their cell phones for calls, to only use their laptops for e-mail and to stop visiting celebrity gossip sites, because they rot the mind.
will it work? Mayer passed the idea by people – to begin tomorrow and end January 8 – and saw some resistance. “If it is impossible, than my theory is already proven and we’re in big trouble as a society.” Good point. source
