Tech, World: Good luck: France wants to mark images as Photoshopped

  • Every magazine cover and movie poster could carry a warning in France. The French are apparently concerned about body image in a big way. Because of that, they’re considering labeling ‘shopped images as such. 50 French politicians support the law, which carries huge fines for those who don’t follow it. So, photos of models are either going to carry disclaimers or are going to get a lot uglier. We wonder which. source

Politics: Kirk Cameron is an atheist-trashing anti-Darwin bag of crazy

  • Atheism has been on the rise for years now, and the Bible of the atheists is ‘The Origin of Species.’ We have a situation in our country where young people are entering college with a belief in God and exiting with that faith being stripped and shredded.
  • ’80s “Growing Pains” heartthrob Kirk Cameron • Discussing evolution and atheism. Cameron, who is (#^(^!@07(#^(# insane, has hatched a plan to discredit Charles Darwin in the eyes of college students. He and a bunch of other Christians plan to hand out copies of “Species” with a special 50-page introduction linking evolution to Nazisim and claiming that the scientist hated women. Cameron says it’s merely for equal time. “What we want to do is have student make an informed, educated decision before they chuck their faith.” Ten to one, they’re probably going to chuck the book and go to a house party. • source

Music: Two things we really like, together: Deerhunter and John Norris

  • Noisevox has been submitting stuff about their interviews for a little while now, and we haven’t really found the right one that fit with the site. But we admit it – we’re big Deerhunter fans (we also would like to big-up Atlas Sound too), and the interview itself is really intriguing. John Norris reportedly got laid off from MTV last year, so it’s great to see him doing what he does best elsewhere.source

Tech: Regarding Google Chrome Frame, Microsoft lays a line of BS

  • It doesn’t even matter what they say after this half-quote: “Given the security issues with plugins in general and Google Chrome in particular…” everybody should download Google Chrome Frame now? Is that what you’re gonna tell us, Microsoft spokesperson, about the plugin that Google made to make Web developers’ lives easier because you made a sucky browser called Internet Explorer 6? OHHHHHHHH NO. “… Google Chrome Frame running as a plugin has doubled the attach area for malware and malicious scripts. This is not a risk we would recommend our friends and families take.” Shut up, Microsoft. You’re just fearmongering. source

U.S.: How’d they catch the Craigslist killer? Through his e-mails.

  • The first thing you start with is the email address. In this case, it’s an email address from Live.com, which is Microsoft. … A trace route does exactly what it says: traces the route that the email took, on its way from its origin, to its destination.
  • Secure IT Experts internet forensics expert Mark Rasch • Describing the process used to link Philip Markoff to the Craigslist murders. Rasch, a former head of the computer crimes unit at the U.S. Department of Justice, says that this narrowed it down to Markoff’s IP address, which led to his apartment building. From there, it was a matter of a more traditional stakeout. “They have to validate and actually get this guy’s fingers on the keyboard, and show that it was him, and not somebody else who sent that email.” Know what that means? It means you should probably avoid committing crimes on computers, because they can be traced. • source
