Politics: Bizarro Max Headroom: The GOP trashes on Palin, but Biden doesn’t.

  • Explosive chat This panel discussion is loaded with fireworks: On Fox News, top GOP guys Mike Huckabee and Karl Rove trash on Sarah Palin. They almost put the dagger in, but not quite.

  • Biden’s low-key blastsWhile Republicans were ready with the daggers, Joe Biden took a much softer approach on “This Week,” saying he believed Palin’s reasons were family-related.

  • A party for protestersSome celebrated the 4th of July with fireworks. Others, like in this CNN report, celebrated by having tea parties where no biscuits were served. Pick your poison.

World: Manuel Zelaya can’t get his plane into the country anyway

  • The runway’s blocked. There’s no way I can land.
  • Honduran president Jose Manuel Zelaya • From a loudspeaker in Tegucigalpa, explaining that he won’t be landing in the country today. We have a feeling he might be playing a cat and mouse game with the transition government.. “If he pushes it, there will be 10,000 people on the runway to prevent him,” said Enrique Ortez, the current foreign minister. • source

World: Manuel Zelaya wants to go to Honduras to deal with this?

Not that he shouldn’t try to decoupify his country, but the situation sure seems awful unstable. People are dying in riots. Yikes. source

Sports: Federer on his impressive record: “one of the greatest ones to have”

  • It feels amazing but this is not why I am playing tennis, to break all these records but it is definitely one of the greatest ones to have.
  • Superhuman tennis god Roger Federer • On his impressive win in the Wimbledon finals against Andy Roddick today. He’s a record-holder! Beyond winning his 15th Grand Slam title, the final itself took 77 games to finish – which was an impressive match of wits, but took for-freaking-ever!!!! Congrats to Roger, and we’ll try not to forget about you when football season begins. :) • source

Music: U2 translates “Sunday Bloody Sunday” to Iran’s problems

  • How long, how long must they sing this song? Good question. Unfortunately, they keep getting reasons to sing it – the latest from Iran, for example. Even though this song is a genuine classic, it’s too bad they suck now.

U.S.: Marion Barry, arrested for stalking? Wow. That’s … expected.

  • What happened? The former D.C. mayor, traveling by car in Anacostia Park, was arrested after a woman claimed his car was trailing hers. It was unclear what, if any, relationship the two have. He’ll be in court later this week.
  • A storied history Barry, currently a council member, is famous for the amount of crazy stuff that’s happened to him, from crack cocaine arrests to tax evasion. Somehow, he still gets elected. He is currently on probation. source

Politics: Sonia Sotomayor is giving the GOP major spin troubles

  • Republicans appear to have given up fighting her nomination. The Supreme Court nominee, who goes up against the Senate next week, appears – much like the guy that nominated her, Barack Obama – to be a tough cookie to crack. She’s a minority and a woman – two groups the party struggles with – and worse, Sen. Jeff Sessions, the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, has fought off allegations of racism in the past. Plus, the GOP has just 40 votes in the Senate. Which sure makes it seem like they’ve given up on fighting back, doesn’t it? source
