Tech: Harman’s head: Facebook doesn’t care about your vanity URL

  • harman 1 A guy named Harman Bajwa, who had reserved the vanity URL of facebook.com/harman, had it taken away “for violating Facebook’s policies” – the policy where the URL has to have something to do with your name. Wait a second …
  • harman 2 It appears that the real reason Harman’s vanity URL was taken away was because Facebook’s sales staff did a deal with one Harman International, and swiped the name from the guy under false pretenses. Pretty lame. source

Offbeat: This is the stupidest dog we know. She’s basically an idiot.

The Afghan Hound is the stupidest dog of all, a top canine researcher says. The smartest? The border collie. (FYI: Lassie is a collie, but not a border collie.) source

Culture: Jerry Seinfeld and his lack of business acumen support NBC

  • What did the network do to him? I don’t think anyone’s preventing people from watching Conan. Once they give you the cameras, it’s on you. I can’t blame NBC for having to move things around. I hope Conan stays, I think he’s terrific. But there’s no rules in show business, there’s no refs.
  • Comedian Jerry Seinfeld • Criticizing the idea of Conan O’Brien possibly switching to another network after the Jay Leno debacle. Seinfeld thinks that was a good idea too, saying, “I also think this was the right idea at the wrong time. I’m proud that NBC had the guts to try something.” Also, he made some weird comment about the AOL/Time Warner merger which made him sound like an idiot. Remember, this is the guy who did the terrible Microsoft commercials with Bill Gates. source

Culture: Protip: Don’t take dietary advice from Megan Fox

  • not doctor Megan Fox has been suggesting in recent interviews to drink vinegar to cleanse the system and lose weight. It sounds friggin’ stupid.
  • doctor Dietician Lucy Jones: “The body, including the liver, is a well-oiled detoxing machine, which will not be improved by vinegar.” source

Politics: “Fire the TSA”: Gizmodo kinda says what needed to be said

  • There is no other way to interpret it: The TSA is saying clearly that they can’t prevent terrorists from getting explosives on airplanes, but by god, they’ll make sure those planes explode only when the TSA says it’s okay.
  • Gizmodo writer Joel Johnson • Regarding the Transportation & Security Administration’s decisions on security. The tech site gathered every logical thought on the Internet regarding security restrictions and came to a conclusion everyone was pussyfooting around – airline security is a joke. Instead of fighting terrorism in a way that actually works, the government has spent billions of dollars trying to cover every possible scenario, when the likelihood of a terrorist attack actually happening to the average person is slim to none, based on simple logic. In other words, kids, the TSA is wasting everyone’s time and money by forcing us to take off our shoes or do any of the other expensive stuff they do. We’re with Gizmodo on this one. Fire the TSA. If you want to actually stop terrorism, focus on intelligence, Obama. source

Tech: eBay’s reason for wanting a piece of Craigslist? To block Google.

  • The deal hasn’t exactly been roses for them since. In the midst of a lawsuit with the free, indifferent-towards-money classified service, a top exec admitted this was part of the reason for acquisition. However, they also noted that another suitor was interested – but they were apparently hostile to Craigslist’s mission. eBay is run by idiots, apparently, because they launched a direct competitor to Craigslist, Kijiji, which suffers from the triple-threat of 1) being something nobody has ever heard of (with a confusing name to boot), 2) ruining current business deals and 3) being an also-ran in the market the company technically already owns. Brilliant! source

Offbeat: NPR covers the biggest issue ever: The cut of our sandwich

They seem to be very much in favor of the triangle over the square. We personally favor ripping the sandwich to shreds so it’s not an issue. source

Culture: The voice of reason on Jon & Kate: Danny freaking Bonaduce?

  • It has nothing to with the camera. Blaming it on the show is not right. This is going to sound mean, but if the media is so concerned about the kids, then stop covering them. Then the kids won’t read it and nobody will know about it.
  • Former “Partridge Family” member/reality TV star Danny Bonaduce • Talking about the “Jon & Kate Plus 8” saga. Bonaduce says it’s not the reality TV cameras at fault with the relationship – it’s the cheating and general douchebaggery. With Jon blocking access to the family home from TLC cameras (because he’s a douchebag), it’s quite possible the show may not come back. We can only hope. • source

Tech: Daily poll: Google’s constant logo changes, clever or annoying?

  • Today, Google changed their logo to a barcode to celebrate the anniversary of the first barcode patent. (It turns 57 today.) Now, we think it’s cool and awesome and everything, but Google has been doing this a lot lately. Which compels us to ask a fairly obvious question: Are they overdoing it? Vote above.source
