U.S.: Hey Karl Rove & Harriet Miers! Have fun testifying before Congress!

  • Why they’re doing it The former Bush advisers will be testifying on the firings of U.S. attorneys, allegedly for political reasons. The testimony of the, uh, dynamic duo will be released in transcript form. No word on if it’ll be public yet. source

  • Why it should be fun Rove went out of his way to avoid testifying – he was apparently told by his counsel that executive privilege prevented him from testifying. Apparently, negotiations took place to make all sides happy. source

U.S.: Obama flips the Bush endangered species policy like THAT!

  • He just let the experts back into the room. Barack Obama, while celebrating the 160th anniversary of the Interior Department, announced that he was changing a Bush environmental policy finalized in December. The policy allowed federal agencies to decide if projects would endanger species – a major tenet of the Environmental Protection Act – without consulting the experts. Obama, in an announcement, gracefully reversed that policy. This is why Michelle is taken, Jack Cafferty! source

U.S.: Another round for the John Conyers v. Karl Rove battle royale

  • Change has come to Washington, and I hope Karl Rove is ready for it. After two years of stonewalling, it’s time for him to talk.

Conyers has subpoenaed the former White House political director regarding the Bush Administration’s firing of U.S. attorneys and prosecution of a former Democratic governor. U.S.: George W. Bush’s redemption: A library and think-tank?

  • I think he is stung by the reaction to him. Nobody else is going to make the case for him right now, so he wants to make it.
  • Bruce Buchanan • professor of government at University of Texas at Austin, on George W. Bush’s plans to build a presidential library, museum and think-tank for himself on the campus of Southern Methodist University. The plan has seen skepticism from academics, as well as SMU students and faculty, who say that Bush is attempting to use the center to rewrite his legacy. • source

U.S.: Bush’s final approval rating: A record-setting low

  • 22%? That’s it? George W. Bush goes down as having the lowest final approval rating of any president in the last 70 years, when they first started polling. To put in perspective, Reagan and Clinton left with 68% approval ratings, Bush’s dad left with 54% and Harry S. Truman has the next-lowest with 32%. No love for George W. :( source
