I think in this case a fundamentally decent man, who violated the law, is going to be sentenced to a prison sentence. But I do not believe, under the circumstances of this case, we are sentencing a criminal in the true sense of he word.
Lawyer Benjamin Brafman • Discussing the Plaxico Burress case after his sentencing. Burress got sentenced to two years in prison today, and will likely spend 20 months in jail as a result of the incident, where he brought a gun into a nightclub and accidentally shot himself in the leg. A bit harsh considering he was the one who got hurt, but he had an expired license for the gun in a different state. Just two seasons ago, Burress, a former New York Giant, was the star of the show at the Super Bowl. • source
I was blindsided by this whole event, When you get blindsided, you should take a moment to gather your thoughts. I have a lot of personal issues more pressing than football.
New Oakland Raider Richard Seymour • On getting traded from the New England Patriots. Seymour, a five-time Pro-Bowler, was traded last week and found himself in an unenviable position of trying to move his entire family out of the Boston area within a week. As a result, his family situation – he has a wife and four kids, plus is his cousin’s legal guardian – has gotten ultra-complicated. Seymour will live in Oakland by himself, while the rest of his family moves back to South Carolina. The Raiders have sent Seymour a letter saying he needed to be in Oakland in five days or he would forfeit his season. • source
Players (or team officials) can’t tweet (nor can surrogate tweet for them) during the game, nor 90 minutes before or after. The surrogate part is the Ochocinco rule. source
They can only use social media to update once a quarter, so as not to usurp play-by-play mechanisms media outlets pay the NFL a lot of money for. source
Fans can tweet to their heart’s content based on current rules. Which means you have a leg up on NBC News if you go to a Redskins game with a cell phone. source
Bro made his debut as a Philadelphia Eagle last night. Since he won’t play for reals until around week six, it actually made for a good preseason game.
