Tech: Not even Apple Stores in nice ‘hoods are safe from shootings

  • But … but … this is where we bought our iPhone! An Apple Store in Arlington, Va. (where literally, we bought our iPhone) was the scene of a random shooting. An employee was injured after a man came into the store and attacked the woman. The area it happened, so posh that a popular YouTube video makes fun of how street it isn’t, was such an unlikely spot for a shooting or robbery that customers thought boxes were falling down. On the plus side, the store was packed but the employee was the only one hurt. source

Culture: O.J. Simpson’s ex, Christine Prody, sez he’s a bad human being

  • She wrote all about it in a new book. Prody says, beyond the cocaine, crime, pregnancy and abuse, he treated her like garbage. Without any income of her own to her name, he would get into fights with her and dump her out on the street miles from their home. He forced her to have an abortion – twice. He would get so possessive that he’d spy on phone records and emotionally wore her down. But the kicker, in our opinion, is this line: On a night she was wearing black, he told her, “Nicole wore black the night of her murder.” Wow. Who knows if this is all true, but W-O-W. source

U.S., World: Ringleader of rape, murders in Iraq sentenced to life in prison

  • what The case, which we covered in detail (for us, anyway) a couple of weeks ago, was a brutal killing of a family in Iraq and and a rape of a 14-year-old girl. *shudder*
  • who Steven Green, who was arrested after his discharge from the Army, was sentenced by a civilian jury to life, though he could’ve gotten the death penalty.
  • how The defense argued successfully that Green was a “broken soldier” and product of a bad childhood who was mentally damaged by the effects of the Iraq war. source
